More than three days now and i still have the sound problems:

"C:\work\builds\dalibs\dalibs-build\build\Src\WavLib\wavlib.cpp(32) : ERROR:General:StreamingSound: missing MP3 codec?
E:\FL\Scratch\Source\Client\cmn\SoundArch.cpp(360) : *** WARNING: unknown Sound archetype '0xbf83f941'"

Something that has to do with soundmanager.dll

Anyone else experiencing these problems. Any help is appreciated.

Fox_1, are you sure you have Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec installed and enabled and no other mp3 codecs installed. And priority 1?

The log pretty much gives a good hint what's the problem. I myself had only weapon sound and same "missing MP3 codec?"-logs. For some reason
the codec's status was "do not use this codec".

Could you give more information, what's working and what's not. Can you hear weapon sounds?

So what's the deal here? You three guys who figured this out gonna help us for whom it does not work?

Post Sat Mar 01, 2003 7:15 am

The problem starts in space after leaving the planet.

The Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec is installed and enabled but other codecs are installed too (microsoft stuff) and the priority is set to 1.

For a fraction of a second everything is working then i exit the screen with an error message.

Hi agian ..
I'm on the phone to Microsoft right now ..

.. and if your having issues with uninstalling Fraunhofer audio codec he suggested booting to safe mode(f8 on start up) and removing the codec form there and the legacy codecs ( L3codec*.acm) havn't tried this yet but let me know if it works anyone

Oh and the other option same as above in safe mode, but to remove compleatly your audio codec folder and your legacy audio codec/driver folders compleatly ! ( and as a last resort even the media control folder) then when u restart windows it should reload all your required drivers. U can reinstall your third party ones like for divX but avoiding Legacy codecs (l3codeca.acm).. If windows doesn't reinstall the drivers u need then u have to repair your system drivers by puting your OS disk back in and reinstalling .. not reformating just reinstall..

Well thats what the guy said and I'm off to try it out now
Good luck all

Hey guys, check out this link to the forums of Sharereactor: http://forum.sharereactor.com/viewtopic ... ncer+sound

There has been a lot of discussion there on the same topic, and I found a pretty easy fix for my sound problem (on Windows Xp- changes in registry did it.)

Hmm... that is a bit different method with the registry edit

Just wanted to thank ElectricBrain et al. I was having the same issue as deeznutz and jabberwhacky... Finally uninstalled in safe mode - deleted the files, reinstalled the 2 wma8/9_dist files, and i was good to go.

man is it better hearing all the dialogue...

Hey, thanks for the suggestions.. I'm sure it would work on my game if only I could get to the properties tab on my Audio codecs.

I go to control panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Hardware -> Audio Codecs. From there it says:

Device type: Sound, video and game controllers.
Manufacturer: [Standard system devices
Location: Unknown

Device status: This device is working properly.

At the bottom, the Device usage field is grayed out [I cant choose anything, it doesn't read anything.

So I figure this doesn't help me much, so when I click on properties it gives me this error:
RUNDLL
An exception occured while trying to run
"shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\WINDOWS\System32\MMSYS.CPL",@0"

Soo.... Wtf do I do? If I can't get there, I can't mess with my codecs.

Btw - I'm running a P41.9ghz/XP/Sound Blaster Live! Value/GF4 Ti 4600 if that helps at all :/

Thanks for any help!

I cannot get steps to work. I did all except the fraunhofer codec as my audio tab does not show this codec.
I have a Soundblaster Audigy.
I installed the two mentioned files 8 and 9 but I lost all sound with that, so I re-installed nimo and gained back the sound I had lost but no more than this.

I get partial speech. I sometimes get dialog but not always. Very little in-flight speech.
As a result I am stuck on mission 5. I have met Juni at the research station and when I come out to fly to California Minor I am faced with 3 ships. I cannot hear what anyone says to know where to go next.
Im getting desperate on the sound issue. May possibly try a re-format!!!!

My problem is now solved.
I followed the "readme" on the cd. Section X for sound issues.
All sounds are now present and correct and mission 5 is now all clear.

I tried to do a quick fix when I had no sound other than the ingame sfx. No speeches etc.
Didn't work.
Followed the troubleshooting section, uninstalled the Nimo codec pack, even though its a pain in the arse uninstalling and reinstalling everything, and it all works fine..

Damn you Nimo codec pack, damn you to hell...
