Demo Sounds issues?

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Post Mon Feb 24, 2003 7:41 am

well, I couldn't find that tempinstall folder under winnt/temp, and so I couldn't find that exe... I did the rest of the steps to fix the problem, and now i have all sounds except for engine and weapon sounds... plus, every once in awhile, the game will completely freez with sound fx in a loop, and it causes a hard system crash.. have to manually reboot. Once it even gave me a bluescreen with an error looking like it was pointing to my soundcard drivers. I have a Hercules Gamesurround Fortissimo II with latest drivers.. a bluescreen in Win2k!? good lord, that hardly ever happens.. gg Microsoft..

@zor_clone have u tried doing a search for the file? what o/s are you on? if its xp or win2k the temp folder most often used is the one in your login profile under documents and settings and not winnt\temp it depends if you have changed the default enviroment variables
Ialways have mine set to c:\temp so my login profile doesn't get bloated with crap and slow down start up times
Or go to MS and do a search for the file.I'd have thought they have it in their downloasds somewhere

Thanks for the help Harb, I'll look for that other temp folder when I get home.. (didn't even think about that one) and if the exe isn't there (although I did run an hdd-wide search for the file), I'll try the MS website. Do you think that exe package will fix my remaining problems?

Well, I found that temp folder and ran the installer again to get access to that exe.. it didn't seem to change much.

Then I had the thought to disable 3D Sound in the options.. voila! Worked like a charm..

It seems Hercules soundcards tend to have problems running hardware acceleration in some games... or maybe it's just mine
