Demo Sounds issues?

The place to ask for technical help with running the demo or the full game...

Post Sat Feb 22, 2003 8:44 pm

You know they could have fixed this by putting a subtitles feature on I only just realised this when I showed the game to my deaf friend and we had to go through my limited amounts of sign language to explain to him what was going on.... I ended up writing 90% of it on a piece of paper....

I'd refer to my post above.

@Hiakuryu, I don't have an anser for you on this. There was some indication subtitles were going to be a part of this game, but it's seems it was left out. My comment was really directed to the others who are having sound issues on their card, not towards your particular situation.

And yet again please explain how that would help someone who is DEAF play this game?

The fix worked fine for me, though I'm quite angry that I can't play most of my video files since they use mainly DivX or other non-MS codecs.

What happens if we re-install the codecs after re-installing the FL demo?

(Oh, and I think the mouse control sucks - I've been dying to say that for ages, now I've played it I can honestly say it doesn't feel right. Right mouse buttons were not designed to be used at all, ever!)

Hi everyone!

I was having missing sounds in pr-beta build 1131 and now that I got the
demo I found out that majority of the sounds were missing again.

After tweaking the codecs, installing patches and things like that,
I found someting unusual.

So, if you have missing sounds, check this

Control Panel->Sounds And Multimedia
Select Hardware-sheet
Select from the list Audio Codecs and click Properties (Double click)
Select Properties-sheet
Doubleclick Fraunhofer IIS Mpeg Layer-3 Codec
Check that "Use this audio codec" is checked!

For reasons unknow it was "Do not use this audio codec".

After that all sounds are working!

The nimo codec pack totally sucks - most people will only ever need ffdshow, and ac3 codec. Both of which can be found here, and here.

This is all I have installed on my system and I have not had any problems with FL.

I have tried everything in the readme, but all I get is the effects sounds. I have no more ideas of how to fix it. Whenever I try to click the "use this codec" check for the Fraunhofer codec it just goes away. I think its corrupted or somthing. I have all the latest updates, and a santa cruz soundcard, so I think its a codec problem. Sheesh! Hope the full version works!

The Fraunhofer codec was set properly on my PC and I still get missing sounds. I don't think that's the problem.

Hiakuryu, ffdshow supports XviD+aload others.

I had no sound whatsoever when i first installed. Just goes to show that reading the readme is always a good idea (even if u cant wait to play the game) as in 5 mins of twiddling with the codecs and a soundblaster driver update (the wonders of broadband) I was up and running no problems

The only other problem i had was mouse sensitivity in windows being too high os that in combat even with the game settings turned down for hte mouse the cursor still whizzed everywhere couldn't target a thing till i turned off mouse acceleration and slid the sensitivity in mouse control panel applet down a few notches (which of course then messes with my normal settings for everything else but I'm still a happy bunny after pulling an all niter tetting and retrying the game to see what differenes happen each time)

@andi: Did you follow all the steps, or just checked if the frauenhofer codec was priority 1?
I first only set it to priority one without doing the rest, and it didn't fix it either.. i had to follow all the steps to get all sounds...

ok, but how are we supposed to get to a WMFADist.exe if we installed the thing from a single downloaded file from FilePlanet... the readme refers to the trial cd

Post Sun Feb 23, 2003 7:32 pm

@zor_clone the install creates a folder called tempinstall under ur temp folder. You will find the redist foler with the files in there there is also acodecs exe which may be worth running as well
