Note, this set-up can not be used for general gameplay. It is definitely PvP only.

Eagle with the following,

3 x Tiz del Cids
3 x Cannonball missiles
Sunslayer Torp
Ripper Mines

Using this set-up will wipe out any ship in one pass. The only problem, if you see it as one, is that victory will cost you upwards of 50k in ammo.

For starters, I use various ships for both PvP and NPC hunting. But I will describe my oure PvP ship for this.

Titan(just to be different)
2x TDCs
2x Nomad Blasters
1x Cannonball
1x Firestalker
1x Hornet CD

Don't use mines as I have never gotten any good with them and consider them a waste of money for me. May have a Ripper just for show.

As with most duels it eventually becomes a jousting match usually, which actually works wells for me. Once I have taken down the shields what I do next depends on the situation.

If on the first pass I believe I will be able to take down his shields I will launch my missles in the hopes of getting a one pass/one kill. Odds are this won't happen as on the first pass most players will be trying to dodge the "cow" and take it on when the duel becomes more of a turning match.

For the rest of the time I may or may not launch 1 missle at the beginning of a run. Launching one earlier can ethier serve to cause the opposing pilot to ethier try and shot it down, drawing fire away from me, or try and dodge it, again drawing fire away from me. If he does neither then it is very possible that this missle will hit and kill him even if he manages to kill me first.

Hmm

Here goes:

Eagle - lvl 10 shield

Loadout:

2 Tiz (tizona del cids for newbs )
2 cannonball launchers
2 nomad blasters (fire rate matches the tiz - as does shot velocity!)
1 sunslayer torp
no mine
adv countermeasure ( a must)
adv thruster

Okay - firstly - i fly with total engine kill and thrusters. Why? With no engine heat, and a couple of counter measures - no other torps, missiles etc will hit you . It also happens to be best for moving.

Second. Two blasters - matching fire rates and projectile speed with tiz = maximum damage PER shot on impact. Without matching fire rates you can get two shots firing after others - and missing if not continually in the line of fire. Therefore - this maximises damage. Also - your recticule won't be shot to hell by having different shot velocities! Also - i have these guns as it means after all those missiles and torps have been used - i can still fight on and HAVE won!

Third. The missiles and torps usually mean no-one survives the first pass against me. If they do - the second kills them!
I strafe on approach under thrusters - shooting guns - missiles are firelinked. I start about 1k away with the fire, as soon as near and their shields are damaged enough - break and thrust away. The remaining shots flying towards them kill sheilds and then the cannonballs blow them to hell and back.

I have fought and won against anywhere up to 9 opponents at once. I have taken down anywhere up to 16 players in a fight before i karked it. I fought them all in eagles/ sabres with the same loadout, or maximum guns loadouts too - and caned them. To put it mildly - i cannot remember the last time i lost a duel. I can remember fighting so many people that the screen was filling up with 'a player has died'.
There IS a tactic of WHEN to launch things for maximum effectiveness - and it DOES take time and practice.

I can use guns, and often win in gun duels with that loadout too. I have nothing against gun only loadouts, but honestly - they cannot take out large volumes of player opposition in eagles/sabres unless they have torps and missiles.

I don't claim to be the best pilot, and i am not the best pilot. But i can say that when in a fight, i often level the playing field quickly and easily. I am good at fighting - especially when the odds are stupidly against me, and in duels i just don't lose..............lol

Also - with a nice loadout - i can take out VHF in heavy, and even some light fighters (haven't managed with patroit, starflier, startracker, cavalier yet).
Hawk and defender were only cause they were crap pilots in sabres.

Choose to believe, choose not too - but also ask any member of the TE and they will tell you that i can severly kick ass when necessary! LOL

as u see mine is almost the same loadout as slake

dagger;
- adv. stunpulse (class 3)
- slingshot missile (class 3)
- sweeper missile (class 4)
- dragoon type 1 (class 4)
- pyros type 1 turret (class 4)
- hornet cruise disruptor
- ripper mine
- adv. countermeasure

tactics;
against npc u must know against who u can do engine kill;
- bounty hunters, u get more hits from the when u use engine kill
- GMG, u will not hitted as must when use engine kill
i founded this out while doing missions from malta... tested it a few time and use this now in new fights against them...

against pvp i use alsays engine-kill.... i like to fight against other daggers and against eagles, if it is played without use off nano and batts i have a good change to win... i had against a few who used them before they hitted me their shield down...
i use also div tactics, like against other daggers i try to dodge, but do also head-on, some will be death before they even knew... combo off missile .
against top-classed fighters (ie. i say not best, co'z their isn't if a patriot can kill a titan, and he can) i stay on their back and watch every maneuvre oof them, so i know where i need to go or what to do (like use a disruptor).

i had it 1 time when i did with 2 other daggers last-man-standing... that's fun, watch ur back and still dodge an other ... when the first was down, the second was shooted by the eagle with we killed before this fight... i shooted inmediat at the eagle, he tried to escape from me and my missiles, but his ship wasn't agile enough (he turned about 270 degrees without using engine kill, but trust)... he couldn't fire at me, after 4 sweeper missiles was his shield down, then 3 slingshot missiles eated his hull totaly away... isn't it sweat

If u c some1 in a dagger make fireballs from hunters it can be me

Ship of Choice: Eagle

Layout:

2 Tirzonas
2 Nomads
2 Hull crushers (aka. Cerebus and such)
Starkiller Torp (or whatever that cheap ass one is)

Tactics:

Shoot first and let the lord decide. I used to use Hornets because I'm retarded, and liked having something shoot really fast and be annoying, but thanks to Falcon, I mended my ways.

Ship: Humpback "Sexy Beast"

Layout:

Stuff ( I can't really remember, it's been a while since I gave her a good riding) Justinian (or whatever he goes by now) had one, albeit not as sexy as mine, but she was smokin.

Tactics:

All bark and no bite. If you set it up right, you can pack an intimidating wallop shooting rearwards. I've killed *a few* Eagles in combat, mostly due to their poor skills, but all the same, I did it. A good countermeasure package is a must. Half of being a smart duellist is knowing when not to fight.

Call me crazy if you wish but my favorite dueling fighter and loadout has always been this

Legionnaire
2 Pyros type 2
2 Barranger MkII

Sounds insane right? not if you duel in nebulas or astroid fields often

Personally my favorite dueling place is the ice fields in Cambridge near the Ross Planetoid so I use a Legionnaire for it's agility, several people in bigger better ships have died because they didn't have the agility to manuver in the ice fields properly

They cannot run away.

however, some people use them to kill........

How?? Well - whilst you might leave them with a smidgen of life in the old hull, a couple CD's with fantastic turning rates and speed homing in will usually finish off the job for you.

Post Sun Dec 14, 2003 6:34 pm

thats true, I know they wont let ppl run away {unless they cruse and then kill engines} but I want to know how some players uses them for destroying missles and torpedos, how someone could aim so fast?

They also can cause players in engine kill mode to have thier engines kick back on. Useful if they don't notice it happen.

this is only possible when using hornet cruise disruptors (or the NPC disruptors r an older kind off cruise disruptor) or by both when flying above the 280m/s

i use dc co'z i can't mount torps on a light fighter

Yeah. Here's the thing. The CD travels fast. It hits the enemy ship and creates a nice explosion with a nice big fat radius. Any munitions *live* within that radius are detonated. Therefore, when you hear "incoming missile", and fire a CD right away, it zings to the enemy ship at up to 800 m/s and detonates, catching any emerging missiles/torps/mines IF it was fast enough to get there before those munitions left the blast radius. Typically, If you are within 350 meters of the enemy or so, and have good reaction speed, you can detonate any single munition he fires, by shooting your CD. On the other hand, if he's smart, he's spamming you with CD's too, and you can't tell the cballs from the CD's.

Never feared a torpedo. Ever. Actually, I'm happy when people are packing sunslayers, because I make them eat them on their own shields. If they were firing missiles, they could use cruise disrupters to spam out the missile warning so I don't know when to counter with a CD. But with a torpedo, they don't have that luxury. Torps will thin out the newbs really fast, but a good pilot with a CD will eat the torp users for breakfast.

Besides. Cballs have all the hull killing power of a sunslayer (insta-kill), turn 5 times as fast, and allow you to still mount a CD.

I fly an hammerhead, it's a good ship that ppl often overlooked.
my combo:
4 skyblast Bs
skyblast turret B
1 neutralizer missile
1 lancer missile
1 ripper mine
hornet CD
class 9 shield
might not be the best combo out there but it works very well on the hammerhead, since the hammerhead out-turns any VHF(wif the possible exception of eagle),i am able to take out most players in two head on runs. but it does have a weakness as well, the shield and hull strength is not as good as other VHF, so u might wanna keep tapping the thruster on and off.

I hate people who use missiles. I mean, you just l;aunch about twenty homing missiles they haven't even got a chance. What's the point in that?

I'm making record time!
If only I had someplace to be...

homing (fool) missles are easy to avoid with CMs or kill kill them with CDs like any other missles.
