I definately agree that no restrictions should be put on fighters of any type entering the contest. The problem wasn't really due to their being a drake. It was a general problem that could apply to any fighter. It's more a matter of wasted time finalizing a conclusion that everyone knows to exist.

I think the 'No One Dies in 5 minutes" rule brainstormed by Twex makes sense. THere may be other ideas on how to handle it, and I suppose that's why we have a forum
One downside I can see to a 5 minute rule is that the more numerous side could simply dodge when they get the upper hand and deny another kill for 5 minutes. I doubt any 1 team would do this, i'm just trying to predict a problem. Perhaps a 5 minute rule applied only on the last man standing? To give him incentive to go for a kill? These brainstorm ideas are not rules in any sense, just ideas to help guide the event-leaders, who will agree with each other on a simple set of rules.

As far as why we need rules in the first place: The whole reason we are fighting over a system is for Roleplay, and maybe just a need for an objective as every game in existance posesses. Without rules we miss out on that. We miss out on that rush ("Guys if we lose this one we lose the match! Fight Well!". I'm not advocating gestapo nazi-style rules, but rather rules that we can all agree are logical and can be accepted by both sides. Rules which don't restrict unfairly, but which work towards making the event more fun for all players. Any questionable rules will probably go by the wayside and be replaced by ones we generally agree on in this forum. Twex's original set did alot to spice up the event IMO, but we had to drop the seeker idea as too comlex and unfair to LF's. This is an example of the evolution of a fair rules-set.

Reg and I are going to be hashing that out. If you would like a say in it, we could do it newsletter style. For now, email [email protected] SUBJECT: BROWCLOPS SYSTEM WARS UPDATES and I will make sure you get a copy as it becomes available.

***** ***** ***** BROWCLOPS TEAM CAPTURE THE FLAG ***** ***** *****

TEAM CAPTURE THE FLAG
WHEN: 2100 pst 18 JUL 03
LOCATION: BROWCLOPS
MODERATOR: JUSTINIAN
REWARD: FLAG = 500K
WINNING TEAM = 2 MILL CREDS DIVIDED EQUALLY.

Team Capture the Flag. The idea is to escort your flag from its location to your base and back to the starting point prior to the other team accomplishing the same. I will tell the Flags from where to start. I will tell each team captain (to be determined) where thier base is, what system the opposing flag will start in, who their flag is, who the opposing flag is, and where to start from.

You can use any LEGITIMATE MEANS nececessary to get your flag to and from its destination, including killing other team players, killing the flag, jump holes, killing trade lanes behind you, anything....kinda like a mad dash.

Winning Team is the Team that gets its flag to their base and back to the starting point as quickly as possible. Once the FLAG IMs that they have arrived, I will invite them so I can verify the location. Simple enough.

Interested? EMAIL TO: [email protected]
SUBJECT: BROWCLOPS CTF
Include your Char Name, and the ship you fly (for team balance hopefully)

For Giggles...I thought about using Crete and Malta as the team bases, not saying that I will, but I am interested in feed back on it....any thoughts?

What is the flag? Is it one of the players or is it a commodity?
And with Crete and Malta, they seem a bit close to each other, and really only one good route from one to another.

Post Wed Jul 16, 2003 10:45 pm

The Flags are going to be 2 designated Players - 1 Per Team. Each team will know who their Flag is and who the opposing flag is. The OBVIOUS tactic would be to have the team split up - one to escort the Flag to your Base and one to hunt the other flag. Stopping along the way to have the flag dock might be a good idea...but I am not going to give all the tips away.

Dashadow is Right - While Crete and Malta might be good fun as you would dodge higher powered NPCs...not a good idea due to proximity. They will not be involved. I am thinking Kusari and Bretonia as Sectors, keeping the bases as far apart as possible.

REMEMBER - I need to be able to justify to Brow that there are enough people interested to get a locked server. PLEASE EMAIL [email protected] with BROWCLOPS CTF in the Subject line, the CHARACTER you intend to use, and the SHIP you fly (to attempt to balance the teams).

Thanks!

Justinian

Justinian, I sent you an email this morning, but didn't specify a character, and I won't specify a character until I know the two bases, simply because each of my characters are good/evil with different factions, please identify the bases asap.

Also on this...
Does the flag have to dock at each base, cos if they don't I'm thinking its a fast way back to simply kill the flag once it reaches your base

And...
Who decides who is on whos team?

I think it would be better to make the flag an object, like that thing in the middle of the suns in tau-31, or whichever system it is. That can be the opposing teams flag mmkay.

Maybe Team A has to go to the base of Team B and purchase a commodity that's only sold in Team B's place, then bring it back to Team A. So, if the flag carrier is destroyed, you gotta go back to Team B's place and pick some more up.
Just a possibility.

On the war rules thing, can you keep the discussion here, or in a new thread, I'm sure most people will have some input, and will be able to find flaws in some of your thinking.

Another alternative to the 5 minute rules, is:
If it is clearly obvious that the remaining player(s) for one side are evading more than they are attacking, it should be considered that they are fleeing the battle, and are thus no longer considered in determining the winner.

This would account for the situation where there are 2 or 3 light fighters taking on 2 or 3 heavy fighters, there may be no death for 5 minutes, but the outcome is not truely clear (so the battle should continue on past 5 minutes), I would wager on the light fighters if they co-ordinated their attacks. However if it was one or two light fighters against 4 or 5 heavy fighters, then the light fighters would be evading more than attacking, and I think the outcome would be obvious (99.7% of the time). And similarly if it was 4 or 5 light fighters against one or two heavy fighters.

Also, this rule encourages continuous confrontation.

I think that would work nicely as long as we have an unbiased referee present. But of course, we really need a referee anyway, so I don't see any problems with it.

Here's my suggestion for battle rules. If I repeat some of the one's previously mentioned, sorry, just consider it being your idea, I don't mind. We're all here for the fun of it.

1: There are two kinds of battles, Major Battles and Minor Battles. Major Battles can incorporate entire star systems as a disputed territory but require scheduling that the leaders of the involved parties can agree upon. Minor Battles can be declared on the spot with a Console message (or equivelant, such as informing the members of the other side currently on) for bases, Trade Lanes, areas, and Jump locations. A side can only declare three Minor Battles in one day. Major Battles do not have this limit.

2: Everything goes as far as fighting is concerned. Gang banging, sneak attacks, batts/nanos, etc. are all legal. Rules of engagment can be made if each side agrees upon them, but these are by no means enforced except by the two teams. Other rules, such as a limit to the amount of times players can die before being defeated, are left to the two initial sides.

3: Other factions and players can join a battle at any point. To do so, they must inform the involved sides of their involvment prior to participation and adhere by any special rules, such as limited deaths. Their motivations, or what side they take, need not be made readily apparent as you may choose any side currently involved or simply be your own side.

3: A victory is declared when all but one of the contenders admit defeat or lose all their lives. At this point, the remaining team need only secure the contested area for a span of Fifteen Minutes. If no one else arrives in the area to contest it, the battle is declared over and a victory for the current possessor.

Sorry, again I have to disagree.

The Drake pilot was told to commence a delaying action, so that the other team could not move on before the pirates where ready. That was because of the confusion in the rules that we missed you can't move on till both teams are ready anyways, so the Drake pilot would have gone more offensive otherwise, which he did, and was after a single fighter the whole time, and caused a good amont of shield damage to his target.

5 minute rules... again... let the pilots fight, fighting till your enemy becomes so frustrated he makes a mistake is a common tactic, and it works.

Also during the first fight, the reason you saw more ships show up after you killed what seemed to be all of us was in fact false. We where split into two groups, the second group came in later.

The rules we had last night where just fine as is... things just need to be made more clear to all partakers.

Today is the last day to register for the Team Capture the Flag. If I don't have any emails (shout out to those who did sign up) it just won't happen. Sorry about that part to those who did sign up. The Pot to the winners keeps increasing, mainly due to a HUGE gift from DocFuglyMark, who donated 1 million credits. I also completed another circuit of the stations I visits and can now PROUDLY offer a 500K reward to the Flags, and a 6 Million credit bonus to be split amongst the winning team. Think about it - That's 400,000 just for escorting a flag and hunting down another flag. - more if less people sign up. The minimum I need to make this happen is 20 people. If just 20 sign up, the winners get 600,000 credit per person.

Interested in playing? email [email protected]. SUBJECT: BROWCLOPS CTF
put your character name and the ship you fly in the body of the text. I will email you the password and your team name and where you need to be (system, sector) to start off. Still looking for 2 People who feel lucky (the Flags) and 2 people to be the Team Captains. If you are interested in either - please put CAPTAIN or FLAG in the Subject line after BROWCLOPS CTF...thanks!

DaShadow proposed a very good idea....gonna have to test it out. Question - if you dock with a station midway from point a to point b and then die, do you respawn at the midpoint with your cargo?

I will be testing this out, and if it works, I will give it a go in the CTF.

Unfortunately, I don't think your cargo will survive. So if we use the way I had proposed, then the only way I could think of is to buy the commodity again at the opponent's base.

Perhaps to prevent dock camping, the defenders aren't allowed to be 1k from the docking ring. Or maybe just honor system, just don't do it. You can take my suggestion and modify it to work better.
