The whole re-exploring prospect is only annoying before you actually do it. Me and a friend both had rather high level characters on E2, with everything explored and so on. Then E2 went down, I hated the thought of going to Elite, but I needed my Freelancer, now I'm on Elite, well established, and everything is great. If you need backup outside of Liberty, call on the RES, you'll see a topic about us on this forum.

Great!
I'll be looking forward to playing with you guys. You seem very nice and mature. It's nice to finally get a break from the everyday arrogant children...
Thanks for all the replies, guys! You more than answered my questions.

You're gonna regret it, Obike.

How on earth can you have an opinion about something you have never tried? You fret like an old woman. You have no personaly experince on Elite or any other server. It is very easy to level up in Liberty and then fly out with a few friends and buy yourself a nice class ten ship. And then it is all about skill, which is YOUR criteria for a good gaming environment.

Actually i had a full 30 minutes of experience with MP when i first got this game in March. The lag sucked on the three servers i tried, all with ping times of 40 or less on my broadband. i doubt it is any better now.

How can you possible believe this game requires skill? THE ENTIRE GAME IS ALL ABOUT WHO HAS THE BIGGER GUNS. No skill required. case in point: there are sooo many high level guys in their Sabres and Hammerheads and whatnot camping outside bases/planets waiting to pick on lower level people. That, combined with the all the other crap i've read here, convinces me MP is a total waste of time. I've yet to see anything to make me think otherwise.

Wow, thirty WHOLE minutes?
I have over one hundred hours on Elite and I just hit level fifty. I have never had any of the problems you THINK exist. If all you know is what you read here then you don’t know anything at all. Nothing. The ping on Elite is not bad, at peak times it can get dicey but that is rare. I saw a girl on last night in New York, leveling up. And if it is all about the bigger guns then go buy them for god’s sake. I helped some kid level up by giving advice and letting him join our little convoy. He has an Eagle or something similar now and goes where ever he likes. How do you leave the house in the morning? The real world is dangerous.
The only time I have had to fight anyone in this game, on line, was a level 12 player who took a shot at me. I was level 38 for crying out loud. I handed him his butt after giving him a chance to back off. Now if you can’t handle beating up on a level 12 player then I guess that would have been too dangerous a confrontation for you. There are hundreds of people (a guess but a likely one) on Elite playing 30 at a time having a blast. Cower in your bedroom by all means. If you dare peek out from under the bed anyone of us will be happy to help you level up and buy those big old guns your so afraid of and a ship to mount them on. In the mean time your opinion means nothing here because it is based on nothing.
Human nature leads us to accentuate the negative. That is why what little you see posted here relates to negative experiences. Would you really be interested in what we all did last night on the server if it weren’t negative? We had a blast by the way. And you didn’t.

You're right, I didn't. I was studying for my damn finals. Despite what you may believe of me, I have other things I have to do other than post here and play games. I do come to these forums a lot in my spare time, though. You'll likely see me a lot more this summer since i can't find a job anywhere.

I'll make ya a deal Holliday. I'll try out Elite when i get home later this week (if it isn't full). But only after i've eaten a big bowl of Mac&Cheese... college food sucks, and I'm dying for some real food.

I could stand some mac and cheese.

Am I the only person that's tired of listening to Hornet's constant BS about multiplayer?

Post Wed May 07, 2003 3:30 am

Hmm... Gonna have to make a point to rough that guy up a bit

Post Wed May 07, 2003 4:15 am

And so it starts again...

You won't get a chance. i will not be playing multiplayer since i now know you and Tasiin are likely to make it impossible for me to get into it. Holliday almost had me convinced to give it a try. oh well, time to move on.

How are you every going to see anything to make you think otherwise while you sit around forums bitching about it instead of trying it?

Main issues with MP vs SP:

PvP balancing: Sure the lower levels don't have much chance against ppl with big ships and hardware but levelling up and getting such stuff is easy (if anything it's TOO easy) so most people who PvP are in flying with lvl10 gear and Nomads anyway so duels are generally pretty evenly matched.

PK: Most good servers have a no PvP rule in the NY or all of Liberty space and most good admins enforce this by banning ppl who break this rule or camp outside bases picking off lower level players. If you're on a server which doesn't then MOVE - there are plenty of Dedicated 24/7 servers to choose from!

LAG: Down to server spec and network latency. Again, if you're on one which is crap for you (doesn't necessarily means it's crap for everyone else!) move to a better server!

CRASHING: Known problems with FLServer cause it to bomb out with a lot of users or become unstable when players are running client-side mods/cheats. Avoid servers with a player limit over 30 until the patch is released and only use servers which explicitly prohibit cheats - it's no guarantee but at least it means the admin is probably proactively monitoring for cheaters and banning them.
