Navy next to your name

When anyone begins a new charactor in FL, they start out with the word Navy next to their name. I assume this has something to do with belonging to the Navy or being friendly to them. Now I know from my own experience that it does not necessary mean that it is the faction that you are the most positive with, because in one charactor, I started killing Navy and that name stayed with my name until I killed enough Navy for them to be listed as Hostile.

Additionally, many people run around without anything next to their name. Presently, on one of my charactors, I am max friendly with the Outcast as I can be but I still am unable to get the Outcast name next to mine. I have seen others have factions other than Navy next to their name so I know you can get others on there. One in particular was someone had Bounty hunter with their name. And this was not part of their name.

If anyone knows how to make this occur, let me know.

Thanks.

very good question, hope someone can answer

What I am think is maybe your rep list must be identical to the way the other factions like or dislike the one you are trying to "join". So if you want to be an outcast try getting all thier enemies hostile towards you and all thier friends at least neutral if not friendly. Not sure if that works but It does make some sort of sense.

I have discovered that my main character on my server has nothing in front of it....

I have looked at my rep list...Nothing is flashing.

So...The conclusion I have made is that Which ever faction is flashing, this is the tag that will show up in front of your name.

How it works, or what you need to do to change that tag...I have no clue...

the only valid tag is navy, if you are hostile to navy and you see another person with the navy tag, they will be red on your scanner, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO JOIN ANY OTHER FACTION, once you leave the navy it is not possible to return

somewhere in the maze of posts, I seem to recall someone (two) experimenting
with it, and it changed randomly when going to a new system... or something...
not sure but I think the experiment was changing startup chars on their server
in regards to rep... and they found that the name thingy changed for no reason,
when entering a new system.

I have perosnally seen someone in the Elite server with the Gateway tag in front of thier name....and it was NOT an AI pilot...So it CAN be done.

Argh, I really want the Rheinland Police to love me... well they have already loved me for weeks but they aren't flashing yet. Maybe it has something to do with the number of missions they do for a certain faction??? Then again does Gateway even have missions?

cooldude there is no way in hell that ur getting into rheinland police, trust me, the game is called freelancer for a reason

If anything I would say Faction Titles are bugged. I have been a Xeno, Rogue, Outcast, and a few others but never was it because it was my most friendly faction. It is true that relogging or zoning will update the title. It does not change in realtime while flying through space. However I would not bother wasting the effort to get a title beside your name. Beleive me I have spent hours trying to get titles that should have been applicable and even if you do manage to get the title you want simply killing a ship on another faction that indirectly effects it can change it to neutral again. If you were to hunt Xenos non stop and do a few Rogue missions and all the while not straying from that path you will eventually get the title Rogue but then you go and kill something unrelated and it can change it. Something fishy going on...

The server admin can change the ini file so new characters start in a different faction, although from my own experience it seems that most crash the server when the player joins.

Your faction never changes from that point on. If your reputation with your "home" faction, Liberty Navy by default, becomes hostile you are no longer a member of that faction but you can't re-join it or join others. AFAIK the only effect it has is to stick the faction at the end of your name anyway - would of been a nice if they'd done a bit more with it.

So, chances ar, if you're seeing people flying around with different factions it means the server admin has changed it. If most players are Navy and only a few are other factions (or vice versa) they are probably admin players.

I have had people confirm and see me as Rogue and I have seen many others with different titles. It's just a very awkward faction grind kind of way to do it and it seems to be flaky even then. You can do it though

Maybe someone can tell me how to edit the ini file so i can change my faction that way. I run a server and wouldnt mind experimenting.

I've had Daumann before or so I've been told, right now I've got nothing, I would love to have Rheinland Military though .
