Elite server back up and running the patch.. *annoyed*

Want help in running a persistent server? Want to setup a gaming session? Look no further!

My experiences so far on the Elite server.
Created a new character and loaded it. Tried to dock with the Detroit Munitions trade rings; blew up four times. Took the hint and made a little cash running around New York. Finally got through to Detroit Muni and bought some small arms. Took that to Sugerland in Texas. Got a few diamonds on the way back. Got lane jumped on the way to the Texas/New York jump gate. Hit the cruise engines and headed toward the next trade ring; blew up. Down to 300 credits I deleted the character.
New character. Got about 50k earned running simple routes around NY. Got lane jumped going to Detroit Muni. Made a run for the next trade ring and, you guessed it, blew up. Half my net income gone. While leaving Newark Station the game lagged badly and I couldn’t launch. Left the server and came back. Respawned inside of the docking bay. No way out. Bashed my ship against the walls until it blew up. Lost half of my remaining net worth. From 50k to about 11 or 12k in a few minutes. All this after hours of game time.
I am determined to be a part of the Elite community (this is THE server everyone wants to be on), but this is killing me, literally. Over and over again.

@Holliday

When you respawned inside the docking bay you could have targeted the base and docked. That would have fixed your situation without killing you. Keep up the good testing work tho, don't get discouraged.

you cant get to the position required for docking if you are clipped inside of a base

this was happenning before the announcement of a patch, seems to occur in high lag though only way is to kill yourself cant disconnect and return.

I've figured out the cause of the random explosions, it seems to have something to do with entering cruise. There was one place in Omicron Alpha where I was blowing up constantly, I tried going through at least 6 or 7 times, finally got irritated and tried going through on just thrusters - and surprise surprise, it worked. There was also a similar point in Omicron Gamma that I couldn't pass, and attempting to get through that on thrusters seemed to solve the problem as well. Elite is almost unplayable for me at this point, and I don't think I'm going to be spending much time there until this is fixed.

Well the server was fun before, but it stinks now.

I didn't even have cargo, but it's annoying when you're heading somewhere and explode out of a jumpgate and the game spawns you 5 systems behind you so you have to do the entire trip again.

Plus I think I'm just sick of the game entirely. Meh.

I am still hammering away at it. Made all my money back. It seems that if you use cruise for farther than the distance betweent two trade lane gates you pop, in some places. One place in Colorado you explode while using cruise even for a moment; the first station after leaving the New York/Colorado jump gate. That same jump gate may or may not kill you while jumping from NY to Colorado.
Great sense of community on this server. People chat more and cooperate more.

It really sounds ilke, with certain places causing more speed-cheat-detect explosions than others, that it's related to screen lag somewhat (different computers handle different areas better). It might have something to do with position predictions, like how it tries to project your position, and when you lag, the acceleration level or inertia you were at when you lost connection may carry your ghost on the server over the limit a tiny bit before your connection can reconfirm your speed, boom. Just look at NPC starfliers, after they enter combat they can warp around like crazy. I bet if the server was scanning them for speed cheats, they'd blow up a few seconds after entering combat.

I have had this bug happen to me once, though, when in cruise mode while AFK... wasn't near any planets or anything.. bet my comp paused for a second, and went 1 unit over the speed limit.

...so in short, this needs to be removed. Now.

I'd really like to be able to leave Omicron Beta sometime this century, as it's the only place where I don't seem to die.

I've been palying on Elite all day, and had no trouble with random blow ups. Don't know what to tell you. I heard other people griping about it, but it hasn't happened to me. My ping to Elite is fantastic, usually below 50, so it may make some sense that poeple are getting lagged then caught up and breaking some speed barrier, and it just hasn't happened to me. But if this is the case, why aren't they being booted like some other suspicious users? Some cheats, i.e. speeding, gets you 'sploded, while others get you kicked off? Seems odd.
But, just now my session ended abruptly and I can't reconnect. I hope this is due to some type of "routine maintenance."

Yes, Elite is down right now ( as of 2:40 AM EST ).

Yeah Tasiin,

I hear from Z0pharX that me, Stikfas_Captain, and rabid are in NEO's good graces now ?

EDIT : Also, I've been playing on Elite all day today, had a couple Jump Gate explosions earlier on, maybe 3 or so, only at jump gates. My ping is perfect, and I love the community. I've been PKed once, and it was legitimate (I was carrying lots of luxury consumer goods through Kusari, I shouldve expected it ) so yeah, I used to play on E2 before it went down, but when i got the chance to start over on Elite, I'm glad I did, I'm enjoying it much more.

Err.... Aside from the aready known bugs that are happening the patch seems to be fine.

I hope the slingshot maneuver isn't considered a cheat on the release version. Right now you get blown up on the return arch right when you break formation.

Hook on to a friend while he is travelling one way and you the opposite at 300.
Wait till you're turned around and about 200m behind your formation and break and coast at over 300k. The "Catch-up anomoly" will make you go even faster using this method. My guess is that the player travels at about 350k when doing this. Can't tell because Speedo stops at 300

Pretty much any manuver the brings a player over 300k runs the risk of getting the player blown up.

Too bad there's no gravity on planets. Could probably reach 500 with a nice big gravity well to slingshot around.

I cant see Elite server hight now. Is it down again ?
Thank you.

Elite is back on-line, and running a server monitor this time.

My mistake for thinking the (pre-release) patch would have stopped all crashes
