Any ship lower than class 10 (except perhaps for the class 9s) is not going to have a chance against them. Facts:

* They maneuver slower.
* Have less shield and hull
* Their weapons drain energy
* Their weapons even if armed with shield killers do not deal enough damage to break through and cause significant damage.
* Only possible way of taking down someone is by scoring lucky with a Sunslayer torpedo if you can get their shields down with shield killers. This is fun the first time but when its the only tactic for you to beat class 10s in low level ships it kills the fun.

Because of these reasons just about everyone flies a Titan/Sabre/Eagle online and hence the significant player drop in the past few days. I've waited for 10 mins to list all the servers and to my surprise the server hosted by my internet provider had the highest player count (and their server only holds 24 people at the moment). There was a total of maybe 40-50 people playing online globally. That is a massive drop from the 100s of people that were playing simultaneously just last week.

well played MP for the first time last night, after deciding to complete SP first (only took 2-3 days). i have to say that most MP players are their own worst enemy right now.. tried 3 different servers.. on all 3 it went the same way.... get on as level 1, look at list.. see 2 or 3 more level 1 noobs and 4 or 5 level 30+.. the 30+ guys are fighting it out with police and navy.. probably out of boredom.. most of the level 1 guys dont know whats going on and arent grouping to at least stand a chance.... on all 3 servers i could basically be in space a matter of minutes before a 30+ player turning up and killing me in a matter of shots...
as with the other new players i got so pissed off i just left.. how dumb do people have to be not to understand how this game needs to work in MP? If you dont let new people come on to at least level up.. then how do you expect for the game to grow.. yes, your very clever for buying the game on day 1, playing it nonstop so you could level up so quickly, but just how gratifying can it be to kill level 1 players with your class 10 guns??

Well when it "finally" gets out in Europe, there should be a new flow of players online!
And with the server patch on it's way cheating should go down too!

If you had enough people on you could do a team skirmish thing with each team using ships from a certain faction, could be fun but mabye Freelancer lacks the elements that make that sort of thing fun elsewhere.

For me, the problem is that you can't carry your character around with you. I spent hours exploring space on the Elite server, and building a character. Then they had their problems with cheaters, and wiped the server clean. I don't fault them for this, btw, this was far out of the Elite folks' control.

But I'm left with the same problem: not only do I have nothing, I've lost all my maps. It would be a little easier to take losing the Eagle if I didn't have to re-explore New York as if I'd never been there before.

This is what kills the multiplayer game for me. I don't much care for doing the map-making routine over and over again. It's patently ridiculous, anyway. Sort of like gaining exploration XP in Earth & Beyond. If the trade lanes are there, fully marked out with beacons and what-have-you, then you can just download sector maps to your navigation computer. The way exploration is handled in these games gives you a world that, by analogy, would be like a modern-day U.S. where every driver had to explore the Interstate highway system for himself, trying to find what cities were where, instead of just being able to pick up a map at any gas station.

It's idiotic, it's not much fun at all, and it's why I stopped playing multiplayer.

Actually I still find it quite fun, PurpleGerbil im pretty sure your talking about me, I think i was out with Godlike and TrenchRat out in Omicron Alpha having fun with bounty hunters. I still find the game really really really damn fun, even though i am a bit overpowered in the sabre and all those guns i still find the game tons of fun. I dont know, i guess its just like that for me, anyway, try joining a mod server, mods can add a whole new world to the game, like the babylon server where you start with a battleship, and i have even heard of servers with people buying Trains and Cargo Ships and stuff, if you find a good working mod it should definetly add some gameplay. The modding community is still in its infancy though, so dont expect anything super huge until a little while has passed.
