To Original Poster ...
I agree with you in to some degree. To me, MP is much harder than SP. I was arguing with my brother about this, as I like to trade more than I like to fight, and with the crappy freighters you can get early on .. you are hard pressed to trade and survived. His response was you probably weren't meant to be able to survive in a low-end freight in MP without another player in a fighter helping you out ... makes sense.
Anyway .. I have 'started from scratch' several times in MP, and unless you want to 'go evil', it can be tuff. By going evil, I mean attacking police stuff to the point that everyone is 'neutral to you', allowing you to trade more freely, and perhaps make it to Mactan Base and getting a dromedary.
Outside of that ... starting in a StarFlier, taking missions, solo, is kinda tuff. Sure ... sometimes right off the bat out of Planet Manhatten, you launch into a horde of rogues ... kinda tuff. When that happens I fly around quite a bit, using my turbo key to vary speed and stuff while the rogues get picked off. The starflier is very maneuverable and you should be able to survive. Even if you don't, it's no big deal cuz you don't lose anything.
Starting out ... first thing is to buy one of those 1830 credit weapons and take a 2k mission hunting down rogues. Starting out, always take missions where they say that they will be dispatching fighters to help you. Soloing 4 or more rogues can be a daunting task. When you get to the mission point ... make sure you move around a lot, using different directions and varying your speed, giving time for reinforcements to arrive. Don't throw yourself into the middle of the battle in a beeline for the closest guy and getting yourself killed.
After you do about 5 missions, you should be able to upgrade to the better fighter, making life a bit easier.
I was firmly convinced MP was too hard, but after some time I got better at in, and now it's pretty easy.
Make no mistake ... this game takes a lot more dexterity than traditional role playing games ... but once you get the hang of it ... it's pretty fun!
