I only play with friends so our pvp is more dueling in equal ships than "grief". However, it seems that in role-playing or real life the solution to someone giving you grief is to hire a bodyguard. I bet you could get a high level player to help you especially if you just want to get off the planet. That pirate won't have time to hassle you if he has a lvl38 drawing a bead on him. In fact, couldn't you turn the tables and demand money from him not to have him killed?

I had a problem with pk'ing to start with but sorta got used to it. It even adds that element of danger to the game where it would otherwise not exist. Apoc and Satiin are both people that have kicked my but(on the Elite Server) but once i got to know them and relised that all they wanted was a bit of a rumble I have even became friends with them. Hell they have even helped me buy an eagle and get decent weps!
So my advice is next time someone tries to PK u, give em a run for there money and fight back! It didnt do me any harm and I dont PK!

...or do what i did and just piss them off.
i was level 8, trading with a light fighter (to give me mobility against pirates ) and a level 32 was telling me "give me your cargo and 20000 credits and i'll let you live"
seeing as how there was no way i could get to the docking ring w/o being killed, and i didn't want to give him the cargo OR the credits, i went and did the unthinkable.
I avoided most of his fire and rammed into the damn planet!!
this, of course pissed him off to no end, so he took to spawn killing me, so i just undocked and floated inspace right infront of the dock, not moving.
after killing me 8 times and realizing that i wasn't gunna run (and use up valable shield batteries or nanos ) or beg for mercy, that i was just gunna sit there, he lost whatever fun he had and took off. Piss on you!
Was that an extreme example? yes. but it seems to me (and others) that these extreme measure are common place. if it was a level 10-15 pirate.. maybe i would have fought.. maybe i would have given him the cargo... the thing is, when you're level 30+ there is no need to pirate off of low level characters. the profit is lower than taking a high level mission.
now for those of you who are gunna automatically say "...Well play on a non-pvp server" i say piss on you too! i like pvp! i like the chalenge of a (relatively) equal level duel. but when some highlevel character takes to hovering outside manatten just to harrass low level players, what challenge is that to YOU? you want to harrass me in a level 35 sabre? FINE! but wait till i hit border worlds or at LEAST untill i'm out of new york!
then there are those who will tell me to "hire an escort then!" piss on you as well! (noticing a pattern yet ) same reason as above. i'll hire an escort to make a run from rheinland space to kusari space. not from fort bush to baltimore shipyard! a highlevel escort is not going to want to babysit you as you make in-system trades to build up enough capital to decently arm your self well enough to defend against high level pirates that shouldn't be picking on low-level ppl in the first place.
now for those who are going to tell me "you don't even want player interaction" well guess what? You get your fair share of piss too!
how is it player interaction to spawn kill a level 8 light fighter? that's more akin to a person stomping on ants. the only interaction is foot-to-@$$.. and it's a very big foot to a very small @$$. you want player interaction? give me a chance to build up and then MAYBE i'll give you a run for your money.. because it is, afterall, a CHALLENGE that you are after, is it not?
last but not least i'm sure there are those that say i'm taking advantage of lax death penalties... well you know what! a whole bucketful of piss for you... no make that a barrel! you are doing the exact same thing. pirating pvp is a no risk situation. if you die, you lost nothing (provided you didn't use batteries or bots).
if i die, i lost my cargo, and quite possibly a few levels too. you want to stop us from taking advantage of lax death penalties, then you do the same.. you wanna pirate pvp? then put something up for grabs. fill half YOUR hold with something valuable. of course this only works if you hunt ppl around your level so don't come after my level 8 fighter with a level 32 titan filled half with diamonds or cardamine and call it fair
now putting this extremely long rant in to perspective, there are those out there who seem to do things honourably. i think apocalypse's example is good. (although he didn't say if he picked on low level ppl so i'm not sure)
and i really like RazorX's roleplaying part. if i fly into outcast space and i'm hostile with them, then i deserve to be smoked by him! (that doesn't mean i think it's honourable to be a level 32 rogue that disrupts the tradelane from fortbush to pitsburg!)
the ppl who piss me off are those who do it for no reason other than the fact that they can and then camp outside manhatten for the purpose of killing me before i even get a chance to GO anywhere. then have the audacity to say "you don't like it, play on a pvp-free server"
so in conclusion i'm in favour of pvp, it's just that my definition is one of challenging duels.. not pointless anal raping of low level characters.
...Just a random thought from a random mind

Just a few things to add
I don´t respawn kill, I just kill, and search for the next target ignoring my last.
I pk aswell on the way back to my group, loaded with up with 3 level 10 shilds ... and knowing that one other pk that attack my group already 3 times is arround, I even attack this pk ... cause once I arrived at the meeting point, one of my party members was already killed and the other nearly out of bats and bots from radiation and sunslayer torps. When he startet than to run, I persuit him even, loaded up with those level 10 shilds ...
and I want aswell to add, that this pk has my respect aswell, cause he attacked in his sabre a group of 3 eagles several times. (2 of them had still level 6 shilds but so what, all had level 10 guns), and he was even able to kill 2 times one of us ... *grumble* though he had luck that I was away to buy those shilds for them. and we were seperated after his first kill, cause of respawn points.
So I don´t know how you call this, but he definatly had the guts to attack 3 superior ships with his little sabre.
another sidenote, my two group members at this moment were both ex targets, that told me they will kick my ass the day the get their own eagle
so I paid for their eagle *g* and give them level 10 guns and level 10 shilds
hehe and no, they still did not kick my ass

some servers have rules which leave liberty or just N York system no pvp but pkill is still enabled. In my eyes this is the best solution, u get that extra excitment(is that masohhism? , =) but newcomers have some time to lvl up. if the newbie leaves the protected systems, its his/her choice and risk. Ive only pkilled twice, once because my groupmember got attacked and other time when someone started shooting me when he saw I was a gargo. Must say, nomads wont get your adrealine pumping nearly as good as fighting another player, so I definitely wouldnt say pvp is "useless". Wish there was an option in the server to disable pkill on some systems rather than expect the ppl to have a reading skill tho. Some plain dont
Hi Apocalypse,
you really think your all that ROFLMAO, anyway it's to bad are chars aren't saved in a Digital Anvil db..your limited to harrasing noobs on 1 little server with your eagle. LAF
I'm in a sabre and consider Malta my home base, police and bounty hunters everywhere hate me..so I have to kill everything when I pull up to a police dock ring..if a player gets caught in the crossfire O WELL..but most just laugh as they watch me fighting hapless police=/

Everyone take a glass full of piss and gulp it down.
You all have good points, except for the original poster. Players that are totally against Pking should not be afforded the right to play the game at all. Single Player or multiplayer.
Niether extreme is good. Pking everyone you see is stupid and getting pissed off is just as stupid. And there is a penalty when you die. You get sent back to your last docking station which could be far off sometimes, plus you lose the cargo that you spent a long time getting to where you are. A pirate should demand a smaller portion of what the cargo is worth, that way it would be beneficial for the victim to pay the small fee as it would save them money.
Deth Stryke,
You are among the most intelligent posters in this thread. Nice job pissing the guy off.
People need to wake up. Pking isn't a crime and it is what the Multi-Player Freelancer is all about.
The reason nearly 100% of servers are PK is because it doesn't make much sense to have a "Multi-Player" server where you can't play against other players. No Pk is like playing the single player. You just have friends floating around with you while you find stuff and make money. No reason to make money since you don't need good equipment to destroy computer players. No need for missles, torpedos, mines, plus there is no challenge. Why experiment with different weapons configurations when nearly any config works fine on the toughest computers. On PK servers you can just play the computers if you want, or practice dueling with someone that has a chance to win against you, kinda like pickin on someone your own size. PK servers make your brain secrete loads more endorphins and adrenaline. The organized events are the best. Try playing on Browclops. It is PK, but you don't have to worry too much about getting killed and you get the added bonus of PvP events, such as dueling and races where others can disrupt you shoot you making it more challenging. Also, it is much more of an accomplishment to learn and succeed with the added threats.
So learn to accept Pking and Pk yourself.
When everyone is finished with there glass of piss, please rinse it out and put it in the dishwasher. Thank You.

I agree with lammas, play on a server with a no PvP zone, like Elite.
All of Liberty is a pretty large safe zone, easy to level up & get cash.
Once I exit Liberty, I'm at risk & I know it. In Border/Edge worlds I know
I'm REALLY at risk, and in Corsair/Outcast homeworlds I expect trouble!
What I can't stand is PKers in Liberty, hunting Noobs & breaking server rules. Lame.
Too bad the software can't do enable/disable PvP on a system by system basis.

Well, Most of the time I don't mind PVP or getting PKed. The only time I really want to be left alone is when my buddy and I are traviling some where to get some of those Big Level 10 guns or on my way to help out a newby. It is a pain to be interupeted by some guy that is board and wants to role play.... what if I had justten got that BlueBlaze Or Daimond back that I have surched so long and hard for.. and some board dude decides to hassle me.. it is a real pain.. you can say it adds excitment and all.... but darn man... it was much more exciting to get that big gun that is now in my cargo hold... is it too much to ask somone if they want to roll play first? for many of you i'm sure it is.... at least let me mount those new guns or help out that newby first then we can PVp or what ever...anyhow... before I bore you all and start to repeat myself hehe....I think there is room enough for all... and for all to have a good time... just be a little bit considerate of those arround you.... I'm sure you will still have lots of chances to do your thing....
There is a way that seams right to a man.... but in its end leads to distruction.....
