Actually, I'm 100% for roleplay, and I'm 100% for PVP, but that was extremely low. Put whatever facade you wish on it.
That was a pirating act, not an outcast defense act. First of all, it is a derelict fighter. Abandoned. And thus, not belonging to the outcasts, under the whole concept of abandonment.
Second of all, the items (cerbs, rippers etc) that were gained on that wreck are removed from the game for 24 hours or so, thus ensuring that this player will return for them again. Essentially, it makes it tuff for everyone to get the items. It didn't just hurt the player, it hurt everyone.
I'm all for PvP. But camping and gaurding derelicts is another story. I don't suppose you considered bringing your hunting away from the valuable item-spawn? I mean, more or less, what you could do is sit your butt down on top of these items every day before server reboot, and deny anyone from them who doesn't kill you first. You could call that roleplay, but you'd be full of it.

The "abandoned" Outcast craft aren't actually abandoned....they are the tombs of lost Outcast fighters. One of the rumors at Planet Malta states that many Outcast pilots were killed in some battle or another, then set adrift there with their favorite weapons and possesions.
Thus, when I'm roleplaying, it's not a matter of "who owns those ships"....it's about the honor of my ancestors;o)

I started a thread on this awhile back
Just a few observations since that time.
I do this mainly because it encourages other players to participate more than just hauling cargo forever. Certainly, it's like dipping you in the fire, but it gets people pissed off and vengeful, and that's a great way to get caught up in the game.
I'd like to add one new suggestion: blind hunting, especially of groups, is a LOT of fun. Randomly select a mid/high level group many systems away, and hunt them down. Don't compromise though, the whole point of the blind hunt is that you do not break off under any circumstances. You kill your targets, or they kill you.
