what about editing

Dont know if this has come up et but will there be editing tools for freelancer or will it be up to the fans to make the editors
I hereby place a bet that we get a FL mission editor before the SL one is finished

FL mission editor is a no go i think, since all missions in FL are randomly generated, there isn't a way o place your own missions in there i think

Problem is that most of the mission code is actually INSIDE THE EXECUTABLES! That means it is VERY hard to do without changing the core logic of the program. I think we can change the writing for the missions, we can change pieces and things in the universe, but we will not be able to make new missions and/or systems

Because they didn't include it in the original scope. They never made any internal tools to add content.

ships should be as "easy" to do as for SL, we just need a converter, though i believe in an interview they said that in the "hog"-file the models would be in plain 3ds-max format...(that was not the case with the beta)

I just checked something: It *MIGHT* be possible to add new ships(flyable ships), not just replacing existing ones (like in StarLancer), though i can't say for sure, because most of the files are encrypted. But even if it's possible, you still have to edit stations etc. so that you are able to buy the new ship(s) some where...
but remember: this is a big MAYBE, just from looking at the filestructure and filenames...

My guess that the files are encrypted because they are from the beta program.I think that sooner or later the community will have to make a fan-based modding tool .
Rubbereagle do you have any idea if it will be easy to change ship attributes like your basic hull strength & speed ?
Since I got a couple of ideas for a balance mod & these fields are the most important with others pertaining to:
1.Having the ability to move the wings in the game again.
2.Removing the trailing effects with regards to wingtips & hull.
3.Re-balancing for different velocities per-ship.
