Being a pirate, anyone try doing it instea od trading?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

I just tried after i get taken to bretonia in the SP missions, to make money. Bought a CLydsdale and loaded it up with guns. Went on a pirating spree.

Best loot so far was 133k off 2 blown up transports near the Cambridge gates. They were loaded with gold and engine components. Got a full 125 tons of it from the tractor beam. Another time, got H-fuel and diamonds. Made 300k before i had to go meet juni on cambridge. Mad heists. Its crazy but involves patience and not attackin when 20 police ships are next to you.

"Impossible" is just a word...

pirating with a dromedary is much more fun

As pirates... we ROCK.

I always like being a pirate more, but in older games it just was not that possible since there was always a lack of pirate bases. In freelancer, you have a home base no matter what faction or group you belong to.

I got the Dromedary and have been pirating all through Liberty space while the SP story waits. I got 140 Alien Organisms, found a place in Bretonia (thanks to the utilitys from this site for finding who buys what...) buying them for 1700 each.... Almost 240,000 credits and I had some hfuel too: just shy of 300,000 credits....

Oh a pirates life for meeeeeeeeeeee......

Me no gun

Hehehe, since I already finished the SP a bought a Rhienland Valkyire (which I maxed out with Stealthblades) and went on a killing spree in the New York system. Too my suprise I found a transport filled with gold! I ended up chasing the transport to about 8.0 k from the sun (we were both burning), then I killed it and took all the gold.

I'm now crossing the line from a humble trader to marauding pirate. (arg) I traded for a bit to build the credits to buy and outfit an Eagle. Spent last night in the Colorado system killing tons of Xenos and a few bounty hunters.

Nothing is funner than hearing a merchant say, "Save your ammo!" before he's a fireball entering a jump gate. MUHAHAHA

SOMEWHAT SPOILERISH....

Lemme just say this: they gave me a full pardon after the story, but I was right back at #1 on the most wanted list in short order.

Just be sure not to make my mistake of alienating Liberty; Manhattan is great for pirates.

NOTE: As a pirate, I found the HISPANIA!!!!!
.....and got nothing from it (ripoff)

So what happens when a planet goes hostile to you cause they remember you attacked a transport near there? Is there anyway to reverse that? I sure would like to land there.

Plus, do you guys attack along the trade lanes or near their ends? Anyone use the Wasp at all?

Post Mon Mar 17, 2003 6:02 am

I attack in the center area of a trade lane. Most of the time other pirates do the job for me and I just pickup the loot. As long as I am there one tradelane is always offline. I pick my targets carefulle. Sometimes about 8 - 10 police ships come in and that when I tuck tale and run to the nearest base.

very profitable.

id like to be a pirate, but really, how could you be very successful in a heavy fighter? like right now i have an anubis, and i cant hold very much cargo...so how could i feasably make any money off of that?

also if you are a pirate, and things like docking rings to planets go hostile with you, can you still land on that planet?

Piracy is such fun. Oftenly i end up infont of new tokyo planet killing every transport that pops up. And while waiting i can allways kill some time by killing the numerous police ships that annoys you.

Killed 1841 ships (171 transports and 189 freighters) and most of the factions hates me, but Outcasts, Xenos, Rouges, GC, Blood Dragons, Red hassians, Lane hackers, etc, etc adores me . The only naval force and police that are neutral to me are the reihnlands .

BTW, Is'nt it strange when youve got like 12 police ships hunting you and you are hunting them and one of them goes like 'Radar shows no hostile activity, area is clear'. Whats up with that?

Post Mon Mar 17, 2003 12:26 pm

Scan the ships before attacking... You can make 20k + from one transport if you choose your targets carefully. And yes... heavy fighters don't have alot of cargo space but it does the job. Also... your ships can only hold a certain number of nano/shield batteries. I tend to sell atleast half of them every time cuze I always pickup more when I destroy ships. 10 nano bots gives you 2000 credits.

think about it. a valkery can hold 36/36. that means you are carrying 14k that you can sell. always try to keep less than you can carry since you cannot go over the limit.

Piracy is lots of fun. Over the weekend I hung out in the Liberty, New Tokio, and Rhineland Systems killing merchants. Did have an Eagle and I'm now the proud owner of a Sabre. Easily earned around $250,000 just from pirating alone with the cargo space of the Eagle. My rep is average with most of the factions save the Molley's and Nomads.

I make 550,000 with a Dromedary per hit in a certain system.
Travel time is 2-3 WP max. Or 396,000 within 18Km travel.
