Eagle, Sabre or Titan?

Hi Folks!

I have now reached Level 34 and $ 900,000 so i am now able to buy either Eagle, Sabre or Titan but which one is best?

Eagle and Sabre are nearly the same with the sabre having some more armour. The Titan on the other hand has better armour and the better shield (Level 8 neutron vs. Level 7 for the sabre and eagle) but is much less agile than the other two.

So which should i choose? What is your personal preference?

Regards

Jeff

The Sabre is far and away the best out of the three in my opinion, if for nothing else because it looks so much better

I personally prefer the Eagle. (IMO, I think it looks better than the Titan or Sabre, too.) It's armor isn't quite as heavy, but the three are relatively evenly matched. All are rediculously awesome. The Eagle is around $555K and can be found on Freeport 9 in the Omicron Theta system. (Honshu -> Sigma 13 (jump hole to Sigma 17 at F5) -> Sigma 17 (jump hole to omicron Theta at southern F5) -> Omicorn Theta.) You must be level 30 to purchase it. You can likely get in good with the Zoners for a bribe at the Freeport 9 louge for around $75-$100K (not certain if that's needed).

hey zero, tell me the server at which you play

My vote goes to the Eagle. A little less armor, but more maneuverable and it looks cooler! It does the job for me.

I have expirience with the three. I recommend the Eagle.
Simply because the Sabre and Titan are much less manuverable than the Eagle.

And i also think the Eagle looks cooler IMNSHO.

and the talk about shields is crap. cos its the shield u buy that matters (the best one costs 310k and it has 8000 power

hmm.. ive tried eagle and sabre... somehow i get lesser hits with sabre than with eagle.

I like the titan best, more sheild and it lookse better!

sabre, it has a hell of a punch with the extra weapon (forward facing turret) and it looks great.

i like the titan best, yes it is slow, but i usually use the booster a lot in combat.
i think the titan looks the best, sabre looks to much like a x-wing and is too big
to gluide through mine fields, for best handeling i would choose the eagle must fun
to fly, also enjoyed the hammerhead. if playing mp though you may need the sabre.

- Anyone up to modding some new choices?? , or maybe the ability to put level 10
guns and shield's on existing ships, now that would be cool

Why does everyone assume the Eagle is more maneuverable than the Sabre, and that the Sabre is more maneuverable than the Titan?

Either people are working off of Beta numbers, or someone else's completely inaccurate assumptions.

When people say "maneuverable", I assume they mean ability to turn and accelerate..

To turn quicker, you need a tighter banking angle, and all three of these ships have the EXACT same bank angle value. Unless I've misinterpreted the function of this attribute, that would mean all 3 ships are equally maneuverable.

If I'm incorrect, I'd appreciate someone explaining briefly which values I should be looking at.

Gettin kinda sick of "The Sabre is WAYYY better than the Titan!!!11 The Titan is mega-ugly and the Sabre l00ks ub3r-c00l!!!1".

Numbers that matter:

Sabre:
Price - Sabre is about 200,000 credits cheaper than the Titan
Forward Facing Turret - Only Very Heavy Fighter that can fire its turret forward.
Outcasts were relatively simple to get neutral with.

Titan:
Hull - 1800 more hit points (I do more shield damage than that in a single shot)
shield - lvl ?8? vs sabres 7 (initial purchase, end up buying a 10 anyway)
Battery's/Bots - 8 more than the Sabre

If any of those numbers are wrong, plz correct me with supporting evidence.

I am still looking for the numbers that determine available weapon power and recharge rate for the 2 ships.. I have a feeling it's identical, but am interested in knowing the facts.

I'm trying to be objectionable here, but I think it's a bit obvious I'm flying a Sabre right now. However, if someone can show me those power numbers, I may be a convert (assuming there's a reasonable difference). As far as I can tell, the only real difference is 1800 HP, which may come in handy around radiation, but isn't worth a flip in a fight. The Sabre's FF Turret is menial, as the best turret out there only does a fraction of the damage of a class 10.. It's quite difficult to get neutral with Corsairs without a bribe, which screws up a whole lot of other factions.. I did a little tactical ambushing on the very friendly Lib police early in the game (MP), the outcasts went white, the lib police stayed green.. easy access to omicron alpha.

Am I overlooking anything important?

the saber and the titan are the same except that the titan has 1800 more in armor and can hold 8 more nano bots/sheild batteries in the game they each have the same power rating

um, dude are you saying everything has the same manuverability? ever tried the freighters... yeah they're all the same in manuverability right? right? NO. I've actually timed 360 spins at the max turn angle, and I found that the eagle has the most manuverability, the sabre is pretty close, and the titan draaaaaaggss.
BTW someone said up in the forums that the titan looks cool? well I guess you're the kind of person that will take a ugo over a ferrari. Titan looks like flattened roadkill to be honest, I don't know how anyone can stand looking at the for more than a minute. Sabre and Eagle are neck and neck, unless anyone knows where I can salvage a lvl 10 turret, otherwise I'd say both sabre and eagle are good choices, it's all about preference. (I think eagle does look cooler than sabre)

one more comment about titans being better because it has more armor, eventhough it's slow someone said they prefer being slow. I know people here has tried fighting nomads with 2 if not all 3 lvl 10 ships. If you have done so you will realize that people with titans will constantly be pressing F while the other two will be able to manuver their way back to a more workable lvl of shield. I was playing with the sabre, and I had NO problems whatsoever, my shields were always up even if they were sometimes at 1/4. I don't know why but I actually had to use the battery once while playing eagle (this is after numerous times fighting nomads, to give you a figure, I had about 15 nomad weaps by the end of each test). As for the titan I couldn't stand in the air for more than two runs by the nomads.. I was getting hit left and right eventhough I was manuvering like crazy not even trying to hit while pressing the strife buttons... Horrible, think about when you shoot a hawk or any other low lvl fast manuvering fighters, I bet they took you at least 5-10 sec to kill eventhough 2 shots and they'll be dead, because they manuver soo much up down left right that if you're over 300 it's hard to predict where they will go and if you're close up you can't use the crosshair (you should know not to use the crosshair when an enemy is very close to you). Manuverability is much more important, which is why titans suck.

</snip>

As you can see, I stated that those 3 ships have identical maximum bank angles, which is 30 degrees.

Light fighters typically have 35, and freighters have 15.

I just got done looking up some info regarding the ship's physics rather than drive.. It would seem that both the Eagle and the Titan have a Mass of 150.. while the Sabre clocks in at 75. This likely translates into faster acceleration and braking for the Sabre, and *maybe* quicker response to turning. This could mean the Sabre has a manuevering advantage over the other 2, depending on how the game uses mass in turning.. for example; If the game calculates drift in turns by mass, the Sabre could complete a loop sooner and tighter than the others..

The underlying problem is, with identical max-bank angles, it becomes a matter of which ship can achieve maximum bank first, setting a pretty heavy limit on the advantage of having half the mass of the other ships.
