The "8" Sleeper Ships - Compilation thread

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

OK then. I've noticed recently the harrowing numbers of threads entitled Sleeper Ships , Where is the Hispania? , or even The complete fate of the Hispania (a compilation of rumours piled together) and quite frankly, they're either crap, stupid, or just plain boring, and sometimes all three!

So I thought I'd use my initiative (doesn't happen very often) and attempt to compile, using various websites, knowledge taken from StarLancer and Freelancer, and some common sense, a complete history of each of the four major Houses, and also how the Corsairs and the Outcasts got to where they are today.

Just to clarify a point, this is IMHO of course!
There were in fact eight, yes eight, sleeper ships planned for construction. In the Alliance there were:
> Britain >> The Bretonia
> USA >> The Liberty
> Germany >> The Rheinland
> Japan >> The Kusari
> South America / Spain >> The Hispania
> France
> Italy
> Canada

This is my view on things. I dont know anything about starlancer, or how it came about, or what its about, but it sounds kwl. Anyhoo, you see at the start 4 ships leave (to my memory, ive only been bothered 2 watch it once, cuz i rather like kicking Rogue!), and we also know for a fact, that the Liberty sleeper left 2 yrs early. Does it not make sense to anyone that the 4 ships we see at the start and the Kusari, The Rheinland, The Hispania, and the Bretonia. What we also see, is one of the ships gets hit by something, so that makes sense that the Hispania, which mustve been the one that got hit by some crapola, took its time 2 limp into the system. As for other ships being created and or destroyed, they probably were, but whose gonna know. As for France, im not surprised they didnt make it.
And off topic slightly, can someone explain Starlancer to me. Mainly what the plot is, and is the the Prequel to Freelancer perchance...also, why have I never heard of it?
And an FL2 is a vert attractive prospect, though I doubt its gonna happen, cuz its been 3 years since FL was released, and most Sequels happen within 1 yr, 2 max. Except for that film, the Mask...I think...
Anyhoo, im rambling and in need of some Coffee.
Nite all

I remember watching Transformers cartoons. When the Contructicons were first introduced, they had been built in caves on Earth by the Decepticons. Then in later seasons, somehow the story changed, and the Constructicons had been on Cybertron, before the Transformers had ever come to Earth. My point? The cartoon had many writers, and between them, they weren't able to maintain the integrity of the story.

What about Freelancer? Seems to me that, apart from some scrapped intro movie, the story is quite stable. The rumour about the sleepers went something like "There were 8, 3 got blown up, one was badly damaged, but still 5 escaped. " Not really paid attention to the intro, and how many ships were there, what got blown up, etc... but I'm thinking that there were different people making the intro movie than there were working on the in-game story. That could account for some discrepancies.

I honestly don't care. I don't care what countries built which sleeper ship, etc... it doesn't matter to me. It would have been just the same to me if they had created totally ficticious nations. I feel that the parallels that the houses in freelancer have to our present-day nations (both now and in our history) only served to allow the creators of the game to be lax in their creativity. Xenos? Anyone who has lived most of their life in North America knows someone (perhaps themself), who has been laid off due to importation of goods, or their company setting up installations in other nations. The Mollys are obviously the I.R.A., not sure about the other factions, but in the case of the Mollys, it's obvious. If you read the news in Rheinland, it's full of propaganda (WW2 anyone?)
I know that in this case the Chancellor had his body snatched by an alien, but still I think it's pretty lame that they parallel Rheinland to WW2 Germany. For the sake of the story, it could just as easily have been any other nation... but... *sigh*.

OK, sorry, I'm going off-topic. But the fact is, this is a game, it isn't real. IMO, better that they didn't parallel current nations to the ones depicted in Freelancer. It would require more creativity on their part, but there would be less questions now. IMO, it's not right that the creators of the story played God with the fate of entire nations from present earth, but try to remember that their opinions have nothing to do with the value of the nations which exist in our present time.

Wizard Tizzle ur wrong casue in the start movie as the sleeper ships go past it shows a close up of one of the ships and it says SS-01 Liberty on it so the Liberty couldn't of
launched before the others

you know, I do remember a bunch of blown up ships just flowting around in the intro. maybe in freelancer 2 they can have you go back to earth and do somthing there that has to do with the sleepers

i dont think the russians are the coalition, people from ALL the nations kinda started the coalition. the russians might have been one of the destroyed sleeper ships, The Frzahethfeijuduzzxogdrexiofraz.

The Irish couldnt be one of the sleeper ships, one, they arent very advanced and they probably just drank booze through the entire war, and secondly, the Irish are right next to the british! they are probably just mixed in with the britonia

Hello. First -time poster here, and I'm very impressed with the site overall. I realize that this is in almost every respect a dead thread, but I think I have something to add. I encountered the same 8-ship rumor on the Outcast base Cali and that's pretty much what led me here to the site. I was pretty surprised to find all these posts about this rumor, and after reading them all, I noticed one potential piece of 'evidence' has been left out of the discussion.

I took a long look at the intro video over and over and noticed that in the pre-launch scene that features sleeper ships, 3 are displayed(beginning at 00:01:02 and ending at 00:01:17). This first scene shows 3, and later the second scene at the launch, shows 5 departing(00:02:04 to 00:02:34). I really thought I had something here until I noticed that the scenery(specifically the two beams that stick out at the very top center of the backdrop) was essentially the same in both scenes. For the sake of argument however, both scenes do feature slightly different constructs around the ships shown, so perhaps this can't be easily dismissed.

Another interesting point is the lack of markings on any of the ships while in pre-launch and in flight. In fact, the only ship that displays any identification at all is the Liberty, which makes it all the more mysterious.

After replaying the video again a few times I picked up on something that I had overlooked. In the intro, with all the attention on the visuals sound effects and the Narrators voice, you can still hear the 'Mission/Launch Control' radio operator. The voice is largely drowned out and mixed into the center channel of the audio track, but it *can* be heard, with a little help. It fades in and out and some of the 'words' are no more than a syllable or two, but one word is fairly clear. Here's a partial(relevant) transcript taken from 00:02:18 to 00:02:35 of the Official Intro

Narrators Voice(foreground voice):
'...In desperation, the Alliance launched five sleeper ships, the hope was, for them to begin again, far from the war and strife that had befallen earth, to start free from the prejudices that had divided us for so long...'

*Second Voice(Launch Controller, background):
'...Three is a GO... Four is a GO... Five (unintelligible)... (unintelligible but with an emphasis on something that sounds like 'aww' or maybe 'ahh')... Failure... (two or three more unclear words said)'

I analyzed the audio from both the official and unofficial intros and both were essentially the same during these sequences(Narrators voice chimes in a few seconds later on the Official version). Sooo, 5 sleeper ships launch in sequence, and then the launch controller broadcasts something about a 'failure'.

Anyways, listen to the audio if it interests you and judge for yourself. Myself, I think it's highly suggestive that there were more ships ready to launch and something prevented them from doing so. Sabotage, like the Hispania perhaps, only on the ground?

Interesting.

*out of no where* the Hispania wasnt just spain. notice how the outcast's are from the hispania, but the name of their capitol is MALTA. MALTA is a very tiny island nation south of italy. so the hispania was probly filled with mixed european ethnics.

haha N00BS!

I bet the Italians had their own ship. They might have stolen it, but they would have it none the less. Could you imagine the Sicilian Mafia clan? I bet they would have the best coffee too.

Some people are like slinkies. They don't do anything, but you can't help but smile as they tumble down the stairs.

While everyone's giving their little arguments, I thought I'd make a few observation of my own.

Firstly, perhaps it's not showing it as it happened, but maybe a RECONSTRUCTION of what history says happened. Afterall, the narrator says "that was 800 years ago", so he was telling it from the perspective of someone in the FL timeframe.

Secondly, you have to keep in mind that the Coaltition ships were bombarding the launch site from orbit. Now surely it's possible that during the bombardment, slepper ships could have been destroyed -- or at least damaged, making them unable to launch (explaining the "failure" report that someone pointed out).

I'm not necessarily say that there were other sleeper ships, just pointing out that it's a possibility. But when it comes down to it, it's not like it really matters.

ok all of you

there were an unknown ammount of ships

think of it like this. in the world wars there were two sides the alli's and the soviets
this shows who was on what side in starlancer

there is a game for Nentendo 64 it is called Battle Zone: Rise of the Black Dogs
this game happens befor starlancer
at the end of the game the allis and part of russia fight the nomads in sol [our solar system they destroy a planet but wipe the nomads clean of the system
right befor the planet explodes the nomads send a signal to there forces in siris

starlancer starts here

in the begining the French and Italian FLEETS are distroyed but it said nothing about there sleeper ships

in starlancer in the mission that you fight the poukov if you time it right you can fligh right in to the luanch bay you see a white box then get catapulted out
in the last mission when the peice of the station warps away they rebuild it in to a sleeper ship

in the extended version of the intro movie the nomads show up on the edge of the system and wait, cloaked, after the ? ammount of sleeper ships launch they are close enugh th attack the sun the sun explodes and killes all that werent in the sleeper ships in slipspace except the 1 alli curnal who flies to serus to tell of the nomads this curnal IS ORILLION. thus the order.

freelancer starts here

when the liberty, kasari, brentonia, rhinland, and hispanya show up in the sirus system the coalition ship shows up behind them and they fight the hyspanya is destroyed the coalition ship seperates making the "bad" factions [roges outcasts and.... the other ships make the French Itallian and... make the border worlds and other factions the rest is freelancer

this is my story it is hit or miss if any complaints or complaments

Ummmm, NO, you see, when he gets to the colonies, its 800 years ago. Which means when that ship docks with the liberty, hes got 800 years to go until we get to freelancer. GL living that long.
