Corsair Fighters

Does anyone have any experice with the Corsair fighters? Doesn't look like they are mentioned much. I play single player, unmodified, level 6 - looking for my next ship. Lots of people talk highly about the Kusari Drake. I like the looks of the Corsair Legionnaire but to get it I am going to have to do a major shift in my reputation. Not to mention it may have implications on completing the story line. Has anyone flown it? Do you think it is worth the effort?

u need to be at level 8 to get a Legionnaire, i dont there is that much piont in gettting a Legionnaire during the story, get it after if anything. I might be fun to get it, but you would have too many enimes, i wouldent, but thats what i think. I dont really like corsiar ships, the titan flys like a cow and looks like one too.

having tried all the ships the corsairs have to offer i can honestly say "they look good on paper but ive never enjoyed flying them" its not that they are bad its just there are other options

If you wait two more levels to get the Legionnaire, you're in a position to get the Crusader anyway, which is better.

They are right about the drake. I have taken on players in Eagles/Sabres/Titans and beaten them with my trusty drake. Except for the starflier, it has the best maneuverability of any ship in the game.

Heh, yeah, statistically the Corsair fighters are all good. In fact, the Corsair V. Heavy Fighter, the Titan, is the best in the game -- and the Corsair Heavy Fighter, the Centurion, is only a turret and some cargo space away from becoming a Very Heavy Fighter itself.
But I've only really liked to fly the Legionnaire, which is, IMO, a good balance of manoeuvrability and power (ror that part of the world, anyway). The others are too sluggish, and the Titan looks like it was flattened in an accident and kept flying on afterwards anyway -- it can't really pull off the look the Legionnaire's sporting.

Basically it depends (don't let this be a best ships thread people ), if you go for things like the legionare, it can mount higher class weapons than its counter part light fighters, and better shields etc. However, the drake is more manoverable, but offers lower class stuff. Its a tradeoff. As a new player, the more power is probabily better for you, but as your skills are refined, manouverability will far outstretch mere firepower alone, as the skill in avoiding fire, and such will be more important than flat out gunning them.

However - its up to your skills. If your not that great - take the high end light fighters as they can take a severe beating, and trying to control something as flighty as a drake might be too hard........

Otherwise, use more skill, and take a smaller faster ship - like the drake or something - as they can really move and run rings around some ships.

The ships selection is to cater for everyone. From non-manovourable bulldozers (titan) right down to the drake/hawk/patroit for the conossuers.....those that like a challenge, and enjoy flying. Heavier ships will allow for you to concentrate on just shooting the opposition, which the titan does amply, whilst the lighter ones concentrate on tactics and skill. The range is there so that veteran players will still have ships to choose from, and offer opportunities to be challenged in, whilst STILL being capable of doing anything - all the way to the newbie who needs a tank to flatten stuff without having to steer at the same time

I disagree. I think if you can use a 'bulldozer' such as the Titan effectively (lets face it, against something slightly more manoeuvrable, the Titan is quite hopeless), that shows just as much skill as agility. It's all about engine control rather than mouse control, is all. It's frickin' hard to take down a Starflier no matter what size your guns on the Titan -- you can't look at them long enough to shoot them :S

Titan: Excellent armor, lousy maneuverability, excellent weapons and shields.
Centurion: Most powerful HF in the game but, again, lousy manueverability.
Legionaire: I like the legionaire. A lot of people don't. I think it handles like a dream. Class 5 LF that flies circles around a cavalier. I've taken out titans in one. I've played the entire SP storyline in one. I am a fan.

Well - my point is this.......regardless of starfliers, cause they cannot HURT a titan........

In a titan, unless your coming up against NPCs in VHF -you can pretty much sit and shoot them without tooo much risk. Try doing that in a light fighter, and your dust................so from that perspective - it does have alot to do with mouse skill - cause basically - a couple of shots from a well armed VHF will have some LF's flying as junk...........however, the return is NOT applicable (by player vs NPC's that is).
Ergo - bulldozer stands a much better chance, especially for a lesser skilled pilot.

I suppose you're right in that context. I can beat a Titan in a Hawk usually though, they're so big and lumbering you can sit behind them firing, and they never get a shot. And you can't miss a barn door from ten feet away, lol
Anyway, Titan might not be brilliant, but I still think a Legionnaire is OK. They are manoueuvrable enough to survive anywhere but the most extreme Border Worlds. And class 5 Corsair weapons can still make at least a dent in class 10 shields...

can't the legionnaire mount class 6/7 weapons? so how is that better than a crusader? anyway, going off track, lol. I'd recommend getting the Crusader while you still can, cos it flies better than the legionnaire, and you can beat Hovis (spoiler?) easier in it.

My opinion is to get the crusader and hold out till later on when you can either get a Kusari Dragon or an Order Anubis, i'd get the Dragon instead of the Drake because it can mount torpedoes, which come in VERY handy later on.
