Just finished the game ...but what really happened?

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Just finished the game ...but what really happened?

Its game over...but i feel abit ripped off

The dyson sphere thing was awesome...but i didnt get how the order and the annoying scientist guy planned to defeat the nomads with the artifact? They reactivate the ancient race's gates and then the nomads die WTF? but instead the nomads get trapped into a gate within the sphere? makes no sense to me

Such a dodgy ending, probably because MS pressured DA to finish the game early.

Also what tips do you guys have for starting out in Manhatten after completing SP?
Ive got the Anubis and $20,000 (spend all my savings on the last 4 missions) with some lvl 6 and lvl 7 weopons (2 guns i found on the wreck of the wolverine and 2 i found on the wreck of some naval freighter in Hokkaido).
Im swaying towards becoming a smuggler and working for criminals but if i work for criminals wouldnt that make all the cops hostile to me inturn making it impossible to sell Cardamine to planets?

you have to decide what you want to run who to fly for etc
you can always fix a rep killing a load of one faction wont make them irretrievably hostile to you

i never got how trent fired the alien-thingy. it wasn't loaded up as a wep and it certainly wasnt me what fired it. so did he chuck it out of the window or what?

I was glad when the missions were over and I could get on with doing what I wanted.

He sat on it.
I don't know, if it was a weapon where is it now?
The ending sucks and leaves you to beleve the story continues (wanna be our contact in Lib. space Trent boy?) thats why all the newbies ask the same question.

All I can say is roll on expansion. Maybe they'll somehow make up for the lame ending.

Well they could have improved a bit on the ending.

Well ill clear up some confusion here.
What happend to the nomads is hard to say, but i guess good old Doctor Quintaine managed to reconfigure that artifact to lock onto any nomad energy signature it found in the galaxy and create a type of Super Wormhole sucking evey nomad up like a jump hole vacum cleaner but just leaving all the other ships, planets, people, etc.

But the Nomads are resourcefull little bugs they will figure out how to make a big comeback.

Ahh i see...

But didnt he say the device was to activate the Dom Kavage(?)'s Hyper gates? If so why arent the hyper gates mentioned after Trent traps the nomads and why isnt there any sign of them in the game?

Also ive been reading the 8 sleeper ships post and this got me interested in the backstory of freelancer, i havent played Starlancer so im wondering how did it end? Wasnt the protagonist on the alliance side in Starlancer? Wouldnt that mean the Alliance won the war? How did the Coaliation gain the winning edge?

Damn so many unanswered questions i need some answers grrrr...

About the "firing" of the artifact:

I don't think it was the artifact itself that was fired: remember that huge energy buildup inside your ship that caused Juni and King to back off? I suspect that artifact somehow powered itself up and shot a beam of energy towards that city-stuff. I'm wondering how it can fire a beam without puncturing a hole in your hull, but he, it's just a game after all

About Starlancer: you never really "win" the game: first you gotta defend lot's ships retreating to the alliance-held territory around... Neptune I believe?? (not sure)
Anyway, you only drive them back a little and in the last mission you destroy their forward command center, but you don't reach Earth or something.
Besides: Starlancer starts when the war starts, while in the Freelancer movie they are fighting for 100 years and don't even know anymore why... who knows what happened in all that time?

TerraN: No Trent says something like "I have to shoot this thing, only one chance" or something along those lines.
He shoots, but I don't understand why he fires on the "City" and out of the city the Nomad gate opens, it's a lame excuse of an ending.

Post Tue Aug 26, 2003 9:16 pm

ROFL!!!!

What he actually says is "We got only one shot at this!", wich is an english expression meaning you only got 1 chance of doing something sucessfully, if my english lessons are right lol

Se he doesn't say he's gonna shoot anything at all

Btw, when I checked it I noticed that apparently this artifact arranges the energy around your ship (the blue field around your ship) and then fires it from the front a few feet off your cockpit, still outside your ship (the white "cloud" where the beam comes from seems to be just a few feet in fromt of the cockpit)

It could be me though, but check for yourself if you want...

oh and I agree on the fact that it's a very lame excuse for an ending... I hope the expension/sequel will have a better one... come on, opening a portal and suddenly entire Sirius is safe again? and all the Nomad Incubae in the Humans are suddenly gone too??

I don't know if this is right or not but just before you leave to make a run on the dyson sphere, I think that it is on Planet Toledo, they are talking with you and saying something about - got the artifact ready and we're loading it up. As that is being said, 2 guys walk by in the background and they are carrying what looks like a torpedo launcher. Anyone else notice this?

Scipio, I was in about the same state as you after the set missions having spent all my cash on bots, bats and ammo during the campaign. Go wreck looting on sigma 13 for quick cash. On your way pick up gate lane parts at roppongi, sell them at Chukogu Gate lane construction site in Hokkaido, then use the jump hole to sigma 13 and hut the wrecks try the 3C, 5C area. Bandits aren't too tough and you can save one of each of the level 10 weapons for later and cash in the others.

If you throw enough mud ..some's gonna stick.

Yeah whats with King saying it was a city and then it turns out to be some sort of wormhole, as i said before i found the ending to be very dodgy.

Knowing the back story of starlancer explains alot, also i found a starlancer manual on replacementdocs.com which says the alliance consisted of America, Australia, Britain, France, Italy, Germany ,Spain, and Japan. Accounts for all 8 sleeper ships

Jat71 might just try that thks...ive been killing xenos so far to get back my rep with the junkers so i can do missions for them and get a better rep with the criminal factions.
