Need a bit of advce please!

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Need a bit of advce please!

Hi all!
I hate to admit it but I guess I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this game. I just finished the SP campaign (it was great bye the way, a bit short though but no complains here). I just wondering now that I'm about lvl 24 where should I go? I know I can go anywhere now but it seems everyone becomes a Corsair and gets one of them fancy Titan ships. I bought me a Humpback and now I'm shipping pharmacuticals between Glasgow Outpost, Leeds and Holman Outpost, Tau-31 which is and excelent trade route, especially in the beginning. I just wanna know what the best way to becoming a Corsair is, to get one of those Titans. 'Cause I hear that they're unmatched. Anyway, any sort of advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!=)

Ok. You said u completed the Sp? thats impossible to be a level 24 because when the game is completed u make it to level 38. And destroy the bounty hunter ships and they will like you.

Heya

Go kill Bounty Hunters, once I had finished SP mission I went to a BH outpost called Sheffield Station and shot the crappers out of the Bounty Hunters, and when you need to repair etc goto Burmingham Station one jump gate lane away and repair and then repeat. But you will be hunted everywhere by the BH's. But soon enough you will be very friendly with the Corsairs and most other crims out there and then happy trails into the life of crime or as I call it freedom fighter :p

Oh and BTW I was lvl 19 when I finished SP missions. You don't have to be 38 to complete SP missions all depends on how much you went of track and done some trading etc before continuing on with the SP missions, I mainly just got enough cash etc to get the next mission and then moved on

Anyways, GO kill them Bounty Hunters

Cheers

Hey guys thanks! I actually finished at about lvl 19 too but now (after some treding) I'm level 24. Anyway, thanks for the info. I always hated them damn bounty hunters anyway... no I gets to blast 'em! But when I do get real friendly with the Corsiars, where do I go? I hear a lot about Omicron Gamma and the such but really, where is that? Well, I guess I can find it but thanks anyway!

I made the mistake of goint to Omicron Gamma while the Corsairs were still mad as heck at me... I don't know how I survived long enough to get back to the nearby Zoner base.

Hey now, I'm sure all of us at one time or another have accidentally wandered into hostile territory when out exploring....

If you enjoy trading, you might see about getting your reputation to at least neutral with the Lane Hackers, and buy the Dromedary freighter from them. Not as well armored as the Humpback, but much more maneuverable (do a search for discussions of the ship), and with more cargo space. Then make a lot of money trading and doing a lot of exploring along the way, stopping at every base you can, to gather info and enhance your income possibilities. Keep an eye on each system's patrol routes to find hidden jump holes, bases, etc.

With enough money to buy the ship and gear you need, and to make any bribes you must, you can then try to adjust your rep with *both* corsairs and outcasts, and then, when you're tired of trading, you can try out all three of the VH fighters and see which you prefer...they each have pluses and minuses.

You might also consider trying your hand at mining while you have reasonable cargo space; the fighters have only enough for carrying the stuff you loot from destroyed enemy ships, IMO.

Once you switch to a fighter, you can continue exploring the more dangerous area, look for wrecks to loot, take lucrative missions, etc. It depends on what you find fun to do, of course. Almost nobody will hate you for slaughtering Xenos, slaying bounty hunters makes you popular with criminals but can make your life a little irritating...they're everyhere.

I'm actually playing two parrallel games, SP but post-story: one as a trader/explorer with the Dromedary, and one as a more...ah...martial freelancer with a VHF. I choose the game to load depending on my mood. <g>

Hey thanks for all the info (you guys are real quick to respond). Yah, I like trading, and I thought about buying a Dromedary but I thought the Humpback was a lot better. More armor and weapon slots and only 25 less cargo. Anyway thanks again!

I think the general consensus is that the Dromedary is better, all things considered. I certainly think it is. Freighters weren't made to fight, and the Drom is much better at running away than the Humpback, not to mention more cargo = more money.

The flip side, though, is that more weapons and better shields = more survivability. Your cargo's worth jack if you die on the way, and with the extra 25 slots, you just wasted that much more money on a lost cargo.

You want to be /sure/ of getting your cargo there in one piece, take a VHF =P

Overall, though, I agree - the Dromedary is better. Besides, the Humpback is uglier than sin. Why bother trading or fighting or whatever if you can't look good doing it?

Post Mon Apr 14, 2003 1:16 am

All good points, but still, won't the dromedary just die on you? I mean it has what 3800 armor? the humpback has like 5800! You could prob survive longer in that. But then again I haven't tried the drome yet so i guess i'll have to see for myself. Also, anybody know where the Corsair's best base is? heard Omega 5 but it doesen't seem to be on my map. I see omega 3 and 7 but there doesn't seem to be anyway to reach it from either of those systems. Is there some sort of hidden jump gate or something? Any feed back would be great. Thanks again for all the responses!

The Corsairs have 4 bases that I know of:

Cadiz Base, in Omega 5 (bottom left corner of D-5). This is the least advanced of the 4.
Leon Base, in Omega 41 (Top-center of D-6). This is about equal with Tripoli as far as technology.
Tripoli Shipyard, Omicron Gamma (Top-rightish D-7). About even with Leon for tech.
Planet Crete, Omicron Gamma (Bottom-Right E-5). Corsair Home planet - has most of the best purchasable equipment in the game. Anything these guys don't have can probably be bought at Tripoli or Leon.

To get to Omega 5, there are a few options.
In Omega 3, there's a jumphole at the intersection of D-7 and E-7.
In Cambridge, there's a hole at F-6.
In Omega 7, there's a hole at C-6.
In Omega 11, there's a hole at C-4 (This is right next to a Hessian base, so I discommend taking this one, since Hessians probably hate you if Corsairs like you).

To get to Omega 41, there's more options...
In Omega 5, jumphole at the intersection of D-6 and E-5.
In Omega 11, jumphole at bottom-left C-6.

To get to Omicron Gamma, there's only one option (coming from the Bretonia side, anyways...there is another way in, but you won't care).
In Omega 41, there's a jumphole at the top of E-5.

Good luck!

Ok here's what I did. I basically allied myself with Zoners to the point where the Corsairs were a little above neutral for me, all you need is just a little liking and they'll give you the level 10 shield and titan on Crete. At all costs try not to kill bounty hunters. I somehow managed to get Bounty Hunters and Corsairs to like me but everyone of those Japanese guys hate me but the Blood Dragons and all the guys in Liberty. The reason why you shouldn't get the BH's on your tail is they are everywhere. Kind of annoying when you meet them at most trade lanes. But if you absolutely must then re-ally yourself with them by killing a lot of Xenos. It's recommened to get BH's and Corsairs on your side.

Post Mon Apr 14, 2003 3:36 am

Careful killing Xenos..it makes the Zoners dislike you a little teeny bit (which, when you kill a couple hundred/thousand Xenos, can add up quickly).

Basically, killing Xenos in Kepler works well...watch out for some of your reps, though. Ex, I don't think Bretonia Navy hates the Xenos..but they /do/ hate the Corsairs. Killing Xenos raises Corsair rep, which will, in turn, lower your Bretonia Navy rep.
