Ever wonder....

If you are stuck in a mission and do not know how to continue, this is the place to ask for help. Missing that elusive Level 10 Shield? Don''t know where to find the lost Ohtori ship? This is the only place where spoilers are allowed!

Ever wonder....

Ever wonder about the final words from the intro, "We will never forget..."

When in doubt, shoot.

That it's a cheesy dramatic device to make the intro look interesting than it really is? Or maybe a cheap marketing gimmick to stir up interest for an expansion/sequel? Yes.

True, they were actualy misquoted, what they really said was "we will never forget, and never again mention it during the course of this game". hehe

* This quote is a reference of the nomad attack that destroyed Solar System in the original movie intro. But in final edition, no make very sense.

Yeah, watch the original Freelancer intro movie, then you know what this is all about. The movie is available from this site:

I always figured because the end of the game would have something to do with it...oh well

You want to explain more? Or wait for me to d/l and view it first?

Post Mon Apr 07, 2003 10:54 pm

brief chronological summary:

The Coalition and the Alliance are fighting for dominance in the Solar System.

The Coalition is at the verge of winning. The Alliance sends off their sleeper ships to the Sirius Sector.

Aliens (the Nomads) arrive in the Solar System. Fighting stops.

Nomads destroy the Sun and thus the Solar System. One (Coalition?) guy survives the explosion on the dark side of Pluto and flies to the Sirius Sector to warn the colonists in the sleeper ships.

Hence the "And we will never forget...".

Post Mon Apr 07, 2003 11:39 pm

I don't think that it would be a Coalition guy because he was on the ground on the dark side of Pluto, and the video says, "for only a brief second" or something like that, so a Coalition guy wouldn't have had time to land.

I just thought the "never forget" means alliance will eventually plan a counter attack against the coalition?

Post Tue Apr 08, 2003 2:56 am

wait, what's the OFFICIAL FINAL story? did the Nomads destroy Solar System as in the original intro or were they never there like the game intro suggests?

The Nomads didn't destroy the Solar System, but I heard that you might encounter them during SP.

lol

what???!!! how come I didn't see them???!!!

oh and the original intro sucked, no music too much talking, and very poorly scripted, if the Nomads were that powerful, now come one Freelancer and a handful of fighters kicked their arse?

(Not gonna post the Spoiler Warning, since this a forum for spoilers. They should know what they're getting into)

Let's see...

The original : Coalition vs. Alliance. Colony ships made it through the blockade to reach Sirius. The Nomads show up and rewards the humans with a nuke to the sun, takes out the entire solar system. A general (does not matter which side anymore, since Nomads are the true foes) makes it through the holocaust and warns the colonists in Sirius. The result is there's no Houses, since everyone would "remember" and unite. It won't be Freelancer anymore, it would be like Starlancer part 2

The retail : Coalition vs. Alliance. Alliance are losing the war, to preserve a piece of themselves, they sent colony ships to the Sirius system. With no Nomads, there's still the Coalition occupying the Solar System and the seperate Houses bickering among themselves. Here comes the Freelancer! Saved the colonist in the end opened up hypergates for the colonists! Whoa, more places to go! To go where no Freelancer has not gone before....

My guess is that there's gonna be several enhanment packs for Freelancer or a sequel

When in doubt, shoot.

Hmm... so was there originally a reason why they were called the Nomads? Or did they just thought the name was "cool". As it stands, it makes absolutely no sense, as they're supposed to be "caretakers". My guess is they weren't originally meant to be protectors of Sirius, as they probably wouldn't go out of their way to kill off Sol yet do nothing against the sleeper ships heading for their home system.
