what Ive learneeed so far about Freelancer...

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Well I am a X2 fan (well a X fan) and whilst i prefer the empire building style of the X universe I will and AM looking forward to freelancer. It really does not matter that you only have one ship does it ? after all elite was all one ship and i loved that game.

I think the big win for freelancer (for me)is going to be the multiplayer, because in x-tension no matter how many ships you owned no matter how many times you go in to xenon space and kicked a** you knew that ultimatly you are alone. ultimatly you are the only real living person here. NPCs are great, they are needed to padd out the universe but real life and real people... thats where its at. one reason i am loving the EVE betas - but some time MMORPGS are just 2 annoying you can choose who you play with, you are forced to do certain things etc... where as lan'able games you have more control (who plays etc).

i am looking forward to it, I dont really think that people should go down the freelancer is better than X2 route and vica versa, they both have great things to look forward 2, they both have a deadicated set of fans who hopefully will make sure the games survive and sell well/acceptably....

One thing i would like to know is how much scope wil lthere be in the game for being a pure trader ?? Personally i want to buy a large ship and learn the trade routes find what sells well etc... get a bitg cargo hold... most of the review i see mention fighting and pirateing cause they are exciting... what i want to know is can i be a pure trader ?? (I know in the single player missions i will have to do a certain amount of fighting ).....

@Arumin no we don't think u suck for expressing your opinion
Clear, and intelligent postings outlining what ppl like and don't like are accepted here, this is the basis for any thread here. what we don't like is postings like "FL is gunna suck cuz it has no stick.. having no JS is such a dumb idea.. FL SUX!"
something like that can be seen only as inflamatory and really serves no purpose other than pissing ppl off. play nice and everyone will go home happy

@Caruso. no it's ok to post information on x2.. especially when someone asks for it what we don't want is blatant commercials for something, be it software or anything else for that matter. the FAQ link stinger posted above can pretty much reinforce anything i've said.

We always enjoy welcoming new members that can add something to the conversation. a new voice is always refreshing. Happy posting!

Edit: @Solo above: yes, it is possible to be a 'pure' trader. but unfortunately it's not possible to 100% avoid combat. you will have pirates after your loot. and if you use the trade lanes, lane hackers will shut them down if you hav a lucrative shipment they want. but yes the whole point of freelancer is to do what you want, when you want. the only requirement is to play through the first coupe of story missions, which serve as a tutorial and an intro to the storyline. after that, you can flip the bird at the story line and go your own way! i'm not sure how the open ended trading compares to the x series, i only got to play the short demo of X:BTF some years ago. maybe someone who has played the pr copy and X can expand (if there are any)

...Just a random thought from a random mind

I'm glad to see some "well behaved" X fans here. You restore my faith in the fact that all fans of space sims have some common ground. Now if only we could find some well mannered Eve fans... On a side note, I'm not an X fan, I haven't played any of the previous versions but I am looking forward to X2. I hope it will be distributed globally.

Deth, but what trader doesn't have to risk his life? It will add some spice if you're flying a big freighter filled with artifacts in the middle of nowhere, with a pirate sqadron on your tail and damaged wings.

ok duh! I even know that I am from the x-forums.. but if that's such a big deal to you guys that I can't like freelancer, well at least the cutscenes so far, then I won't bother...

thanks for pointing that out whever you are...you just had to say that...

"I know something you don't know......" come on..if I wanted to reveal that, although It was no big deal, I would've done it myself..which I was about to do ..anyway, it's not as if I was mouthing you people off was it...

I don't think that was fair, with especially such an offensive nature to that post and any others i haven't read yet...

Ps.... for whoever posteed that insulting comment even realisse this thread was about a complement not revealing who snowyhands is....

I was using the slang term when I posted above , although it may not been so clear to you peolpe, but you went and turned this WHOLE FRICGKEN THREAD INTO "snowy we knw who you are but you're still welcomed but..we know who you are....." or "snowy we feel ashamed" what A BUNCH OF CRAP... I didn't mess with you peopple and I actually SAW THE DEMOS whiever prick bothered to post something like that...

one last comment...it seems you people have hardened up a bit after dealing with outsiders.... although it's really getting on my nerves I can understand why but immeditely taking everyone as offensive well you aren't going to make too many new friens...

I can't believe this.. a flame war over actually liking freelacer(wel the cutscenes....) B-)

Please do what most of us have learnt from X2 BB and ignore him - if you're reading this Snowy - please shut up, you're causing more harm than good!

Here's hoping for better future relations!

What an articulate response from you there, Snowy.

We've been warned about this kind of behavior (thx guys) ...let's just ignore him until he has something worth hearing.

Post Wed Jan 29, 2003 6:45 pm

please tell me Tachyon that you weren't trying to take "a shot at me"(or for thos who are slang or any other language...ahem ) basically I mean picking on me... Tach that's not funny I actually saw the demos and the game looked nice..but I tried hiding my ethusiasm for any x'ers who might read any of my stuff... but noooo people just had to dissent......

ok this isn't fair...I don't kow wha happened here but something tricked some mind switch in your heads and you all sarted to post insulting and flamed posts.... except for a few who should be commended...

Post Wed Jan 29, 2003 8:02 pm

Snowy,
You were initially welcomed to this forum with open arms but yet you persisted in causing trouble here. Your last few posts and the responses by your x colleageus have confirmed that you are immature when it comes to discussing anything related to Freelancer. What angers me more is that you ahve the gall to say that we are flaming your posts?!? C'mon Snowy, you have been trying to start something since your first few posts. "Freelancer is a good game but it will never be my favorite...that spot is resereved for another". What really is the point of such a meaningless piece of information? Such a statement is for all intents and purposes, a sales pitch for X-2. Then when you finally declare you have had enough with this forum and say you are never coming back, you post 5 minutes later! All you want to do here is incite a flaming war, the only problem is you are getting frustrated because everyone here is more mature than you and doesn't get immensly insulted when you put down Freelancer. So you post anothger comment, then another, then complain by saying we are mean for shutting down a thread that is basically you saying how Freelancer sucks and how the people of this board are unfair. What is unfair about closing a thread that is basically you stroking your ego by trying to get eveyrone mad? It is a shame that immature people like you have to ruin the experience for eveyrone else and disrupt the sense of community here. In closing I would just like to say that if you don't have anything intelligent to say, leave like you have said you were going to already!

Post Wed Jan 29, 2003 8:17 pm

Snowy, no where in your post did you include ways that you your self would improve upon the game, we could care less that you think "freelancer doesnt compare to my number one game". We want to know why you think freelancer is substandard.

Post Wed Jan 29, 2003 8:25 pm

El Poyo, why to bother with this freak?

Falmarin, do you really want to know?
