State of the Lancer Union

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Well if you wish to know more don't hesitate to come and have a look:

We're a friendly enough group really!

[edit: We had no idea are jokes were being construed as anything other than jokes... our official Freelancer bashing thread disappeared long ago... I will inform the comunity...

X-pilot, I have no doubt that you're not the only reasonable person on X2 forums. But look at this http://egosoft.com/x2/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2917 .

@datd

It's a small minority, most people were simply outraged by the fact that a post had been deleted (the egosoft forum has 5 locked posts and no deletes). Their's a bit of a 'Freedom of speech' movement going on...

No offense, Xpilot, but think about it. You'll tone down your forum if we allow you to do an X2 thread on here? Arnt those things just done out of respect and courtesy? You are most certainly free to post another thread about X2, with this "deal" or without it. Just try to make it better than our past threads about it or things will just seem to be going in a loop, much like the many joystick threads we are having. There's no need for redundancy like this.

Well, i see you have edited your post. We like to keep things happy here too. And Freedom of Speech doesnt really apply to privately owned forums.

A post that is created explicitly to annoy us and advertise X2 is against the rules which are stated very clearly. And yes, I know what the post said. I don't think it's unreasonable for it to be deleted...

I apologise... I was only just informed that it sounded like blackmail... I am dealing with the forum and hope to have our boys silenced on the Joystick topic but we are not all posting Joystick topics...

Post Wed Jan 29, 2003 4:59 am

It was just an example of the problem on here.

It's not joystick, there are threads that continually insult our community, calling certain of us dictators, and so on. Frankly we can't control what goes on over there, but when it leaks over there, it has to stop

Post Wed Jan 29, 2003 5:04 am

I will do my best to ensure that insults to the FLR are delt with

Post Wed Jan 29, 2003 5:07 am

It's ok. You guys are obviously free to do wahtever you guys want on your forum. Just keep it over on your side -- people posting about coming over here to blatantly advertise X2 is wrong.

Sheesh, Tach, that's a monster of a post. You're a shoe-in for FOTW. And damn you for depriving the rest of us who have no Freelancer memorabilia (as yet, anyway)!

I don't have enough time to post anything substantial. I just wanted to second what Godlike Entity said, which is that staying on topic in the off-topic forums seems a bit too heavily emphasized. As long as things don't turn into a flame-war AND don't go past, say, 10 "spam" posts in a row, then I don't think they should be locked.

Was it Catcher in the Rye where a character had to make speeches, and everytime he went off on a tangent, his classmates would yell "DIGRESSION!" or something like that? Anyway, the point I'm making is that in some cases (like a speech class), there's a point to staying focused. Other times, the point is almost not to stay focused: it's just to talk, and that's what I thought the off-topic forums were for.

Hehe, titbits.

Clarification warranted...

Here's some insight to the off topic forum.

It's still subjected to staying on the original post topic. I wish I had a dime for as many times as a topic got off the track and turned into a forum flooding exercise. These forums are not a portal to chat. We already have that now right off the main page. Be that as it may, post counts are tied directly to "ranks" and most of us look at them as a badge of honor here. Perpetual flooding and getting off the topic taints that honor.

It's difficult and annoying sometimes to open a post with a given title only to discover so many followup posts that have nothing to do with the original theme. That is another reason why we encourage starting a new post rather than muddy up an existing one. If the new topic invokes a discussion, then it rightly deserves to be prominently displayed to signify it's importance.

and so it goes....

Anyway, I didn't mean for this to revolve just around X2 (though that was indeed the major issue). Would some of the staff like to comment on perhaps adopting a looser policy on locking? Also, keep tossing ideas in the air. Wish Bargib was here to comment on it, perhaps timing was a bit off.

Post Wed Jan 29, 2003 6:19 am

My only comment on the locking of threads is this. I just know when to do it when I see it. If I'm out of line, Gibby's the first one to tell me and his word is golden in my eyes. If I've closed a thread and people do not agree with the event, email Gibby, voice your concerns and let him be the final judge. In fact, I encourage that whole-heartedly.

Yeah, i pointed out these issues before Tachyon, and i agree with you.

I visited the X forums a few times, but after seeing the topics there, i left.
