I don't have enough time to post anything substantial. I just wanted to second what Godlike Entity said, which is that staying
on topic in the off-topic forums seems a bit too heavily emphasized. As long as things don't turn into a flame-war AND don't go past, say, 10 "spam" posts in a row, then I don't think they should be locked.
Was it Catcher in the Rye where a character had to make speeches, and everytime he went off on a tangent, his classmates would yell "DIGRESSION!" or something like that? Anyway, the point I'm making is that in some cases (like a speech class), there's a point to staying focused. Other times, the point is almost
not to stay focused: it's just to talk, and that's what I thought the off-topic forums were for.
