Tach: Hmmm... timing could be better, and I would have loved to discuss it with you off these forums... as it goes, here we are... Me borrowing our friends computer, and my wife forwning at me for sitting behind a computer on my hollidays...
Anyway: Yes, we run a tight ship, and that is simply the experience I've got over the years, also running fansites prior to TLR. I actually a long time ago ran one of the first C&C fansites!
But I will agree that we as mods should maybe be more clear in WHY we close a thread. But on the otherhand we don't overdo it a lot... Sometimes you might think we close a thread prematurly, but think about what was "next item coming up" for that given thread. Would there be anything to add to it? Would it be better to start a new thread, with a different twist?
I think we hit right with around 95% of our threads closed, and might close the last 5% a bit early. But I would rather close 5% a bit too early, than 5% to late... Because the "late" threads would mean either lost people due to non-relevance, degeneration because of spamming or worse.
So I actually think we do a good job, and we aren't "dictators" - it is only very seldom that we actually delete items (like that post which basicly said "Think that no Joystick in Freelancer - do the sensible thing: Buy X2" - which IMHO is against the rules and spirit of TLR).
On X2 vs FL. I REALLY hope X2 will be a success, and I think the people at egosoft are very dedidcated to that goal. I love spacesims, and I expect myself to pick up a copy of X2 and play it through! And I would take very harsh meassures to avoid any flame-war. I like X2 and I really hope the X2 community will check out FL. Wether one is better or worse than the other is a very irelevant issue... May both sell well, and competition in computergames doesn't work like that... I'm really afraid "The Sims" or "C&C Generals" is a bigger competitior to both X2 and FL than the games between themselves...
So I'll ask the mods here to add a short reason if they lock a topic. I often do. If you disagree, either start the discussion off with a "new" topic or mail me directly and tell me why!
