David Henry aka Harrier (R.I.P.)

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

David Henry aka Harrier (R.I.P.)

Hello everyone. As most of you already know by now, one of our most beloved members, TLR moderator, exceptional modmaker (Epsilon Mod) and good friend David Henry aka Harrier, has unfortunately passed away last night due to cancer

First of all I think I can speak for everyone here that we all give our sympathies, love and grace to his family: his wife Maureen, his children Karyn, Chris and Jenna and his grandchildren Fyn and Darcy. These must be extremely difficult times for the family and we can only give them our support for the difficult time ahead, send them our love and kind words and make sure they know how much Dave meant for the community and how much he was loved and will be missed by all.

It goes without saying that we will be creating a special place for Harrier on TLR in his honor, a memorial place where his memory and spirit will continue to live on. Naturally we want to give everyone of this fine and exceptional community, which he so much cared about and was his second family, the chance to say something about him or to his family and we will make sure this will be placed on the memorial page. You can do this by posting in this thread and we (myself, Chips and parabolix) will capture everything and make sure it gets placed on the page.

Leaves me to say "Rest in Peace, Dave my friend. May your spirit continue to roam the stars..... till we meet again..."

Even though I didnt know Harrier I give my most sincere respect to his family and friends. I know how they feel about loosing someone so dear to them cause I have lost my father, mother, and mother in law in the same way. My prayers will be with all his close ones tonight.

My deepest sympathies,

SIncerely,

RG

It's like losing a member of the family. I never really got to know Harrier well, only as an online friend and colleague. I instantly acknowledged his talent from day one though. The Lancer Reactor has lost a part of it's soul and he will be sorely missed. I can only speak for myself, but this has hit me hard. I bid you farewell my friend. May your memory live forever within those that were lucky enough to be touched by your presence. God speed fellow staff member.

My condolonces go out to Harriers family at this most difficult and sad time. I sadly never got a chance to talk to Harrier as i got into the FL scene a bit later than some, but he did create some fine models and also a fine mod. A fitting legacy to a fine modeller and human being. He will be missed.

Our sympathies from all at the Olympus complex

I am going to miss the conversations I used to have with him

Harrier was the guy who got me into 3d modeling. If it wasn't for him I would not be in a college aiming for a degree in Digital Animation. I am going to miss you Bud!

His family has my condolences.

Words fail to grasp what I feel right now. Dave has been taken away from all of us very unexpectedly and abruptly and most of all way too soon. If there’s anyone who didn’t deserve this, it is him and his family. I didn’t really had the chance to say proper goodbye to him, so I will try to capture what I wanted to say here.

I want to thank you Dave, from all my heart, for everything you have done for this community and me personally, listening to my real-life issues, handing out advise and just having joyful conversations. You have been an exceptional modmaker, an excellent TLR staffmember, a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather, a good friend and a wonderful person in general. I can only think back to our conversations with a smile on my face. The pride and enthusiasm you showed when talking about and showing your new models you created for the Epsilon mod and other mods, your involvement and devotion towards the community, the passion you showed in your wooden sculptures, the loving and caring way you spoke of your family…. This all touched me deeply and really showed your gentle, soft and sweet character. You had a heart of gold my friend and you clearly loved and enjoyed life and your family. I feel very lucky and proud to have known you and will certainly miss you a lot. Thanks mate!

”Rest in peace, Dave my friend. May your spirit continue to roam the stars… till we meet again!”

To the Henry family: Dave was an extraordinary person, cheerful, caring, loving, intelligent and most of all, respected and loved by many. You must be really proud of him and I’m sure he’s watching over you all and smiling down on you. Hereby my support, love and regards to you all.

Although knowing of Dave for quite some time, I only spoke to him on MSN for the first time a little over two years ago, as an outgrowth of a discussion that we had via email. The original email discussed the "Epsilon" modification that he was working on, but during the subsequent exchanges we turned to other topics such as modern events, Australian politics, computer technology and many others. He was one of those people that possessed a wide range of knowledge on many different topics, which meant that we always had something to discuss, which is an attribute that both he and I appreciated.

Shortly after this initial email exchange, we began to speak over MSN, and there our interesting discussions continued. Eventually we expanded our conversation to speak of more personal topics such as employment, family and friends, etc as well as more general topics. The discussions were most interesting, and I found to my surprise that we agreed on many topics, although we disagreed on others. We did however, teach each other a great deal about our respective interest areas, and he taught me the basics of texturing and modelling.

It was at this time that Dave began to show me his latest efforts while teaching himself to create textures and models in 3DS Max. I can remember being very impressed with the quality of his work, especially over time, as from his intitial efforts, some truly exceptional models were created and refined. As time passed, I spoke to him less because he was busy arranging to move to a new house, and his time was at a premium, but when I did speak to him, we still enjoyed a number of scintillating conversations. A couple of days ago, I noticed that his MSN name had been altered to include "In hospital", and after speaking to his son Chris, I was informed about his condition. Needless to say, I was both saddened and alarmed, as I am sure that you all were.

There are many things that can be said about Dave, but most of them seem cliched or trite. Therefore, I will simply say that Dave was a friendly, intelligent and knowledgeable man, and is an individual that I will regret not knowing better. I will miss our (often humorous) conversations on MSN, however I was relieved to hear that his passing was peaceful, surrounded by his family. I imagine that when one is facing the end, one couldn't ask for a better way out. I raise a glass of ginger beer to you Dave, and I know that you would approve. Cheers.

At this time, I'm feeling a bit too emotional to express my feelings. The month I spent with Dave and his family has been one of the highlights of my journey down under. The photo you see at the homepage is just a small part of a larger photo which was made when I "moved out of their house" to continue on my travel. I almost forgot that we made that picture but I will always remember how special that month was for me.

To Maureen, Jenna, Karyn and Chris I'd like to say that I will be sending you an email in a couple of days with a bit more personal content which I think won't be appropiate to post here.

For now, I'd wish you all the strenght you need to cope with your loss and my thoughts and prayers are with you.
