Internet Explorer 7

Well, I've finally caved to Vindoze Automatic Downgrades and installed Internet Exploder 7.0, which has already managed to crash my computer twice just by opening it... now that it's up and erm... running, I have to say that I'm not impressed. They've come up with a virtual copy of Firefox, with a more flashy interface that contributes very little to the 'internet experience' in my view. I never use IE myself, but my parents are loathe to embrace Firefox for some reason, so it stays around for their sake. Anyone else have a more positive judgement on this piece of software?

nope. We already discussed this several times in previous months and i said it was garbage.

although I wasn't impressed by Firefox 2 much either, and went back to 1.5.0.7

Runing it right now. Not a big fan of tabbed windows myself. But, I figure I bet get use to it, as Visa only comes with it. Firefox isn't that impressive in the new version either. I may still take a look at Opera 9

I wasn't happy with Opera 9 either, hence why i went back to Firefox a while back. Opera has lots of functionality and it does a very good job of rendering pages properly, and I still use it occasionally, but for everyday browsing and general reliability combined with safety and privacy, I haven't found anything better than pre- 2.0 Firefox.

not a fan of tabbed-browsing? so you're happy opening up new pages as a completely new process and putting all that extra demand on system resources? And as far as Vista goes, i see nothing in it so far that impels me to move from my heavily-tweaked XP platform.

FF 1.05.08 works very well.... just came out... I think? Upgraded to it day before yesteday. Can't say for sure, but things have speeded up.

IE7 stinks. It seems to have disabled itself so I am forced to use XP's automatic update but the option where I get to say whether to install what's downloaded or not. At least that works.

Opera 9, displays my favorite news site awkwardly so I'm thinking of going back to an earlier or uninstalling it altogether.

Just did a restore back to IE 6 7 kept closing on me and that was tiring.
Taw, the reason I hate tabed browsing, is if I hit that nice little X to close the page, like I do in IE, it closes all he tabed pages I have open.

Aww C'mon Fd.

Behavioral modification will bring forth the convenience of tabbed browsing. Saves on resources too.

Tabbed browsing keeps the taskbar uncluttered, and lets you see all the open webpages at a glance. I was unsurprised that I.E 7 is a shameless attempt to copy Firefox. IE 7 seems to render text a bit funny, almost as if it's out of focus, while FF is, of course, perfect as always.

Taw, you are not alone in using Firefox 1.5.0.7

Finalday, with firefox you would have to get Session Saver I find it very useful. Especially when i accidentally close an idividual tab, it has an option to snap back tabs that were recently closed. At least I believe it is part of Session Saver

or Tab Mix Plus

Just upgraded my work beastie to IE7. I agree with JDawg that it renders text a bit wierd, it also has modified the way Outlook 2k3 renders text as well. Strange, though I'm sure i'll get used to it. I actually quite like the tabbed browsing, my taskbar is usually cluttered enough with 4-5 browsers open. Can't really comment on the reliability of it yet, but so far so good.

I think it's rubbish, I've been forced to use it and work at it won't load up the home page if you change as much as a single setting unless you quit out of it, kill the IE process, then restart it. Useless piece of junk. So after much whining and cursing on my part, my boss relented and said I could use Firefox (then went and installed it himself when he saw how much better it was than that Internet Exploder bilge.)

I've managed to convert a number of university staff over to FF, and fortunately this has been aided by the ITS Department installing FF as part of its standard SOE. Good stuff!
