What would you attempt to do if you could not fail?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Is there something that I can attempt which I have not done for fear of failure and would I do it if I not only am I guarantied success but know that success is a foregone conclusion?

I think the original post meant to suggest that tests of skill, daring or the like were to be considered. But ... if you know you'll succeed ... why bother unless it is something that you never had thought of trying?

If I knew that I could not fail, I would swim around the world.

but where would be the challenge if you knew you could never fail? shirley, the point of doing anything hard is precisely because of the chance of failure, hence why it's an achievement if you succeed. If you're guaranteed success no matter what then you haven't achieved anything

hence one of the reasons i don't use "cheats" in games - after all, esp in SP, who are you cheating but yourself, and denying yourself the sense of achievement in finishing by your own efforts. Even mini-Taw has now grasped this concept and he doesn't cheat anymore, because it spoils the game.

Which is why I chose swimming around the world. This is something I would never try, no matter how fit and able I thought I may be. If I knew, however, that I couldn't fail in the attempt, I would do it for the experience of it, to swim to various ports, beaches, etc. of call, get to know people in other places, etc., and at a very slow pace and I think very *human* level. It would be the opportunity of a lifetime.

woukld you swim clockwise or counter-clockwise around the world? would you have a pre-arranged route or would you just splash off in whatever direction suited you? how would you know you weren't going round in circles? where would you keep your towels, or would just swim around hot places where the sun would dry you off?

you latter-day Burt Lancaster, you!

if I couldn't fail, absolutely guaranteed to succeed, I'd go back in time and prevent humanity from evolving, because the Earth would be better off without us. But of course I'd then be in temporal paradox territory, as I wouldn't exist to go back in time in the first place, so in fact I couldn't succeed even if I was guaranteed success which of course is another paradox.

Even the Mullah is capable of sound wisdom from time to time. However if I knew I could do something without failure, I'd be giving Kate Beckinsale a call and asking her if she would be interested in a threeway with me and Scarlett Johannson.

It wouldn't matter and as I wouldn't be able to fail, I don't think I'd worry about swimming in circles. I would swim the girth of the world and take advantage of the Panama and Suez Canals, I reckon.

when you say, if you couldn't fail , does that apply to everything associated with the entire venture or just the ability to swim that far? Does it perforce include, let's say, mmm, getting attacked by sharks, or a giant squid? What if you were sleeping floating on the briny bobbing up and down and some sea creatures mistook you for a small island or a walrus that had lost it's way from Arctic regions?

if you use the Panama and Suez canals, will you have the money for the passage fee on you, or would you pay in advance? What if a region you wanted to swim through was closed due to conflict, such as the Straits of Hormuz, or the Horn of Africa? Aren't you worried about piracy in the Moluccas Strait? You could be boarded and robbed.

By if I couldn't fail, I mean that nothing would interfere of significantly inconvenience me on my way. All I would have to do is do the swimming part, I wouldn't drown, be attacked or eaten, yadda yadda yadda.

I wouldn't do it otherwise.

It wouldn't be a challenge. It would be a pleasant experience.
