spaceballs? never heard of that film before....

Meh. I found it to have some good satire but most of it was painfully obvious, not to mention crass.

I've seen it yeas ago, and hedge with Eskie on this one. Never seen it since, as it didn't really appeal tbh.

@Esqui: Agreed, it was painfully obvious and crass...so obviously I feckin' well loved it.

@Candy High-heel: When I read the post as "underrated" I thought that you were going to tell us that nobody seems to regard this movie well and so it is not well rated, by critice or the viewing public etc. As far as it being underrated regarding its sexual or violent content I reckon if Spaceballs is to be seen as too much for a 13 year old we had best ban adverts for coffey which show sexy female red lips cup a mug of frothing-creamy liquid, or healthy breakfast cereal ads where women in undies show their their their fiber-diet enhanced curves. Also, an end to all news broadcasting is a must and don't get me started on them there violent and sex filled Lara-Croft games either...

the casting kinda ruins the replay value, the satire was mel brooks typically exaggerated style(~the Inquisition, what a show!~ ~putting on the riitz! -ayauhauhwahahh!~) so obviously some people (people who liked shaun of the dead maybe ) won't like it, but i thought it was pretty funny(like literally combing the desert)
et casting;joan rivers(robot) and john candy(mog) were just annoying & got too much dialogue

yeah i remember this one scene when the plastic surgeon guy (while Colonel Sandurz accidently TURNED OFF THE MOVIE) is making out with his "assistant" and then the Lord Helmet guy turns around and then the assistant zippers her shirt....

then there is also two moaning women in bed with the President Skroob guy and then he has to get out from under the covers when he gets a transmission from one of his officers....

There is also another seriously underrated movie called "Rob Schneider is a Hot Chick" which is LOADED with profanity and sexual references (one that could've been a candidate for the "Unrated" movie catagory)

EDIT: As for the older movie rating system, Alien and Aliens are both rated R for blood and gore (which was a lot less than expected) yet they have a lot of profanity and some sexual references (although less than Spaceballs, I would have figured that the rating would have gone up a notch), so I guess back then people did not care about sex and profanity in films.

Perhaps blood and gore are plain to see and understand from just about any age where as innuendo and pun require at least some level of comprehension which one might assume the average 7 year old would not posses?

Still I do reckon as said in my previous post that if one were to over protect from each and every possible point of sexual refrence on the screens then the many adverts, pop-acts and regular t.v. shows would have to be censored and that would be on the basis of graphic and obvious sexual content and not the less blatant innuendo of Spaceballs.

Perhaps back then people just had a sense of humour and not an over active sense of p.c.?

This is an excellent movie, but with all comedies, overuse can wear it out rather quickly. This, I believe, is part of why the sequel (which I haven't seen) flopped. But, for an occasional time or two, it ranks with Airplane! and Holy Grail as some funny but not frequently reusable films.
