Time to play...Name That Movie!!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

totally. it is sheer perfection. watch the director's cut, subtitled not dubbed, and i guarantee you will be weeping buckets of joy and sadness. those extra 30 minutes totally alter the film. you have never seen it? please get Mrs grom to chastise you appropriately.

I can't keep this going, no-one else will get it anyway. Cinema Paradiso (the scene where Salvatore goes awol from the Army and returns to Giancaldo to find Elena, but she's gone, and the only person he can find to talk to is Alfredo, who tells him to go away and never come back. This is one of the central scenes of the film, and it's a moment upon which the entire story (and Salvatore's life)turns.

so, I keep the ball. ok lets try another....

"You are mother, sister, lover, friend, angel, devil, earth, home."

there is a connection with my previous choice. ooo its serious film buff stuff now! if you're struggling, a clue is that they're both Italian films. The character of Salvatore is supposed to be loosely based on the director of the film the above quote is from) I know that's not much help!

The name of it was "Billy Jack" and he did 4 in a semi series, Born losers, Billy Jack, Trail of Billy Jack, and Billy Jack Goes to Washington. Tom Laughlin did a good job and they grossed several million on it. And the last one stired up a lot of heat.

Ok then lets try this one

"Cause he always goes to starboard at the bottom half of the hour"

@trekkie - too easy - The Hunt for Red October again.

@taw - sorry it took me so long to reply, I was being appropriately chastised by my wife lol. Your quote is from La Dolce Vita. *cough* I haven't seen it either *cough* The reason I know that quote is because a friend of mine lost his mum last year and the family all signed a card that had a slightly varied version of the quote on it - "You are OUR..." etc. Apparently she loved the film. I'm embarrassed to say I hadn't heard of it before then.

Yes yes I know - I can hear you cursing my name from here. Just because I like movies, doesn't necessarily mean that I've seen *all* of the classics. Its all about opportunity really - and it doesn't help that most of my friends and family are film ignoramuses

By the way - what was the connection?

Ok. Another one to whet your appetite...

"I’m going to have another drink, do you want another fish?"

Post Wed Nov 16, 2005 2:30 am

La Dolce Vita is correct. The connection is that Giuseppe Tornatore, dir of CInema Paradiso, based Salvatore's *Dr Lerna* fil dir alias on a combination of his own career and that of Frederico Fellini, dir of La Dolce Vita.

Arthur, or Arthur II - On the Rocks; Lisa Minelli totally mis-cast.

and as I yet again have the ball, here's my next one. much easier this time.

"You sold me queer giraffes. I want my money back."

(aaah, too easy...)

I think Hunt for Red October is one of them

@Grom, is the actor Dudley Moore?

<edit>

lol. i think you could be right matee

taw/indy - yep, certainly was, Dudley Moore as Arthur. Strange you reckon Minelli was mis-cast Taw - I don't rate the woman, but I thought she suited the part of Linda. In fact, I'd go as far as saying its one of only 3 films I like her in....the other 2 being Cabaret and Stepping Out.

@ Taw - That was Gladiator.

Give this a try

"Voice come from cow on wall."

Post Wed Nov 16, 2005 9:20 am

1st person "Griegs said you would take me in, take me in"

2nd Person "This is no good, you can not do this by yourself"

Post Wed Nov 16, 2005 9:30 am

@topher - is that a charlie chan quote?

Post Wed Nov 16, 2005 10:35 am

I think it is more like an Indiana Jones-ish type movie.

@Topher: The Chosen One?

Post Wed Nov 16, 2005 10:41 am

ha, not Charlie Chan but Sidney Wang in Murder by Death (a film I find most amusing and very underrated)
