A simpler time, A simpler day

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Laugh. Yeah, I've seen movie clips from the Prelinger Archives which are from the 1970s, and I've seen movies that were made in the 1970s, and I just look at 'em and think to myself, "Jeeezus H. Christ, did EVERYBODY have crappy clothes? Even the bigwig corporate executives I saw dressed in suits with horribly wide lapels that looked like utter junk.

Here, see for yourself.

and...

Those always make me die laughing.

Actually, the old west or that time frame was a lot simpler. Your main worry was putting food on the table. People then cared more about each other. On an average day, I spend 45 min commute to work, work 8 hours, have an hour lunch and spend anywhere from 1 hour to an hour and a half commuting home. Almost 11 hours a day involved in work. Not to metion the stress at work. The old west work was hard, but not that stressful as it is these days, with companies downsizing their staff and the rest haveing to pick up the slack.

But you had to worry aobut starving to death because you never knew when a drout could come. Dieing early because the work was so hard you would literally exhaust yourself and die. and even stress on whether or not your crops would even grow that year.

The air was clean, the water pure, no pesticides or hormones in your food, that could be imported from all over the world. It was what you rasied and grew. I had a lamb chop the other day, that the package said was imported from astrailia(sp). Not that I have any thing against their lamb, but to import it from so far away, where is the logic.

How much sheep do you see raised in the states? Not near as in Australia
Australia is known for sheep and cattle.

As far as diseases go, there are more today then back then.
Do we have more? or is it they didnt know about the tons of diseases taht ere actually are?

Hey whats with the knit-picking guys, And it sounded like FD had a stressfull day and was being "Philosophical" in his thoughts, And maybe thought you guys could relate, But I can't speak for him.
@FD-After giving it some real thought, The only simpler time I can think of was childhood.
@Arcon-your right, If you did live in the 70's, you would wish it where the 2000's.
I did!

No, I really want a simpler time, almost to the point of rebelling against modernization. I want a working farm, with a greenhouse, a dozen chickens and I will be happy. Oh, and it must be 100 miles from the nearest big city, anything over 50,000 people.

Now that I can relate with, and a couple of horses of coursez.

i love the cold war years, i think theyre top bombing (not literally, but i like that term). Spies, intergue, ALMOST at war, a nemesis...but no bloodshed, just a war of words, of ideas.

Plus, teenage life in the 70s USA always appealed.

I'd like a return to the days before radio or tv,at least in the political arena.I *think* everyone will agree that in western democracies, radio and then tv have steadily ground any true political fiber to dust as real news content has been replaced by soundclips of politicians reading their 'speaking points' to stenographers claiming to be journalists or diametricaly opposed talking heads yelling at each other over hyperbolic arguments. This leaves only a flaky mix of politicians to chose from; some too wishy-washy & others too stubborn to satisfy the demands of typically evenly divided voting blocks, and all of them standing on(or is it for?) poorly defined platforms that philosophically resemble swiss cheese.*

But primarily I think the advantage of having no radio or tv coverage on politics is that politicians are forced to lie to your face, which seems like it would cause everyone to hold them accountable when they're caught -- and as a side benefit it would rid the political parties of all the dirty money that circulates through PACS and 527's etc ad nauseum*

*please,no replies mentioning parties or politicians, this is just a general statement about how technology is outpacing democracy in the west - thats all

@FinalDay: Hah, I wrote some cheezy thing like that where I make a guy get magically zapped from 2000 to the 1960s. (You can tell which is *my* favorite era. )

Well, it seems I got a little of what I wanted, and its in writing. A simpler time that I can set up and make the way I want, so I guess it is possible to turn back the clock after all.
