I think all mention of Runescape should be banned! my 11 year old is addicted to it. Can't see the appeal myself, it looks awful and it's forever crashing out. Almost every night I hear a plaintive whine of "daddy my wunescape wont work...and I'm on a quest for the dagger of dongo* or whatever the hell goes on.

Post Wed Feb 01, 2006 7:45 pm

Yes, let's ban all mention of Runescape from this point forward. It used to be good, and I used to enjoy it. But Jagex decided they wanted to destroy it by, oh yes, here's the million reasons:

1) The censor that they refuse to fix, people spell curse words around it all the time but people are constantly being censored out of context. I couldn't even say Ana-Lucia from Lost, because it showed up as *****ucia (it thought I was trying to say "anal". About a month before I quit for good, (the MODs on the forums started acting like Nazis and that pushed me off the deep end) you litterally couldn't type five lines on the forums without something completly stupid being censored (it was slightly improved before I quit.) BTW: The word "bill" was not censored, but if you added a period to the end, it was.

2) The customer support was horrendus, and only got worse. They began banning players left and right with almost no evedince against them. (I think it was an evil and secret way of population control and to ban those who were telling the truth about Jagex.) Especally if you were a paying member, you should have been entitled to a response from CS when you sent in a query, not an automated message after two weeks saying that they were too busy to answer your question, and by the way, your query couldn't exceed 400 characters no matter what.

3) The updates turned to crap. Before, we were able to expect a great update every month, and Jagex almost always delivered. But then they started giving us bad updates every week, such as worthless weapons or another pointless quest. And when they would release updates they didn't test them for bugs on private servers, they just opened them up to the public and let players lose millions and sometimes even billions worth of money and items when they would die due to a bug or a glitch.

4) There were several issues that players have been complaining about and begging/pleading Jagex to fix for going on four years, but have they done it? No. They still have not fixed the censor, they still won't give us any kind of bank organazation or even a search feature of any kind (any paying member who had more than ten rows of space used would know what I mean when I say it gets messy) they still have not fixed the most obvious problems with the interface (if you're trying to climb a ladder or pick up a small object, you almost have to click on the exact pixel for it to work) and they wouldn't give us simple updates that people had been asking for forever.

There are many more problems that I can't name right now because I haven't played that game in almost five months and I'm proud of it. My only regret for leaving that game was that I'm no longer in touch with one of my friends that I met while playing. I gave him my IM name but sadly, I never recieved word from him. He was a good friend, and I miss him, but that was the only bad thing that came about with me quitting RS forever, never to look back. Taw, I know it'll cost some money for your son to play, but try to get him to start playing World of Warcraft. If you don't want to pay, then I'd recommend Guild Wars (WoW is a better game, but GW doesn't cost money to play) or hell, you may want to get him playin Everquest one. I haven't played it but I'm sure it's better than RS.

starwolves is challenging. i like it. stopped for a while now cause my com' needs the rest. will pick it up later.

yeah. starwolves is fun. next thing in line for me.

i started starport some time ago. graphics on the deep lacking end, but its all *pure* freelancer. all we wanted. colonising, ginourmous universe, making corporations, and all.

but yeah, gotta admit, it seriously lacks in the eye-candy section. 2-D bird's eyeview, well hey, i hope someone tries it out. so i can have a fellow lancer. ---> www.starportgame.com

aaaaaarggghhhhhhhh no not Neverquest! I don't want him to grow with his best friend being a online *girl* called Darth Derek.

Thanks Kimk, Starport is supprisingly fun. I only saw about two players online last night, but I just put a character on one of the only persistant servers I could find. I didn't want my char to be lost in two weeks, especally considering I'm just now starting to play. (I just opened up the client to find the name of the server my character is on, and there is only one other player online on all of the servers.)

My character is on the PAX Everlasting server, and character name is FaRizzal. (I was bored and it was all I could think of ATM.)

Star Wolves is, I think, utter rubbish. Story is non-existant, control is either too complex or totally illogical, graphics are/were below par even then, there was no incentive to move on.

Did I mention the voice acting is terrible. Really, really terrible. Cringe terrible, in fact.

I played the demo, I admit I thought it was OK at first, but a friend bought the game, I played it for a day and got bored silly. (Friends are excellent ways to make sure a game is good, just point them at the good games more often than the bad ones so they trust your judgement).

Clearly Kimk disagrees, but that's his position. I don't know what he likes in a game but I know what I do.

BTW: As to EVE, I give that that two thumbs up. Stunning game... slow but very, very satisfying.

Here's a game i enjoy playing, transcendence: http://www.neurohack.com/transcendence/index.html

its currently in development, but is very playable, the only draw back being as yet no story line, very fun though

Post Sun Feb 05, 2006 5:38 am

Tried your game ff, transcendence. A bit basic, though intresting. The only complaint, is the movement issues and slowing down.

Post Sun Feb 05, 2006 7:51 am

Yeah FF, I didn't like it too much. (Sorry, I just prefer multiplayer games where I interact with other human beings.) Starport is a pretty good game, I've been playing that a couple of days now, and tried my hands at being a pirate. (Which didn't work out too well.) Starport has everything Freelancer fans want, big universe, dynamic economy, planetary combat, colonization, transporting colonists, escort missions, invading other player's colonies, "taxiing" people from one place to another (usually a drunken tourist) and a lot more.

Anarchy Online is now free to play, and you can download the cilent from their website. However, if you've played World of Warcraft or any of the other more recient MMOs, then you'll find Anarchy to be a little basic. The graphics just aren't up to par with say Guild Wars, City of Heroes or World of Warcraft. If you've got nothing else to do, then check it out if you haven't played AO already. The only thing you have to lose is some time.

EDIT: Also, I heard a game called Second Life was really good. It is now free to play, but you're limited to one character and you'll still have to give your credit card number for varication. There are a bunch of limitations on free accounts, but if you become a paying member then there are actual ways to make real life money off of the game.

does star wolves refer to the star wolves bounty hunters team from star fox?
