Take a good long hard look at yourselves

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Take a good long hard look at yourselves

Jesus H. Christ

I come back from the EVE forums and TLR: OT has descended into this?
Look at yourselves!!!!!
Mods and posters grappling for superiority, people unleashing unto the forums what they have always wanted to say. This includes gay-bashing,religion,politics all that other crap.

I'm sorry but this has gone waaaaay to far. It's time to stop being "Big Brother" and only letting the posters read what you deem fit and wake up to reality. The world is not a nice place. Homophobia is real, get used to it. You travel down south and you say "hey that isnt family orientated" You might just get a shotgun flashed in your face. Wake up, racism and politics exist. By denying people the right to talk about this you are hiding from real life issues. It's like Stalin only reporting that 3 revolutionary kulaks were shot and killed and failing to report that 60,000 people this month have died in Siberia. Real life, Real Issues.
Most of us are old enough to understand these problems in our horribly corrupted world and if you don't, it's time you realised what the hell is going on.

People need to stop b!tching about something that offends them, we came one and many to these forums, anonymous all through love of a game but now it is so much differant. Raw emotion is now the norm as TLR is descending into chaos. Click this if you want mods, but people have to wake up. The blame falls squarely on nobody's shoulders. Everyone is guilty of something. It's like I said before, you simply cannot hide from real life issues such as religion and homophobia. I'm Atheist, I'm still uneasy about homosexuality, I drink, I smoke. Look at me? Am I so un-normal? You can only keep people restricted so far as to block out what they really are opinionated about. I'm sure there arre millions and millions of people in the world like me. Should we shut them up and tell them to be normal to be freakin' politcally correct? You cannot deny a human his rights.

If some religious or gay or facist person wants to go nuts at me, then go on, bring it via my email. I don't want this forum to turn into a flame war yet I really don't want a sanitized, kiddie forum where everything is happy, U.S.A is always right and the sun is always shining. Emotional I know but I HAD to say it.

Edit: Okay, everybody should be able to have opinion on something. I'm not just talking about people like me, any religious person or whatever deviation they like should be able to state their opinion and who they are without "Big Brother" sanitizing it. I mean, that's just my view. You're right codename, they can do what they like and I'm alright with that but something I hate is when somebody wants to get their opinion out, over any matter and it is scuffed over, hidden, denied so that others can't read it. After all, this is off-topic. I was always of the opinion that Off-topic was a place where you could say what you wanted without being persecuted. Of course there are some limits like down-right harrassment and racism. But limiting people as to what they can discuss in an off-topic room? It's up to the mods, like I said and this is only my opinion but give me your thoughts.

Do they really have to "wake up to reality"? If people want to live in a bubble why can't you let them? Maybe they're only fooling themselves but you've got to think pretty damn highly of yourself to presume that you have a right to force unwanted realities into their lives.

If the powers that be want TLR to be a "sanitized, kiddie forum where everything is happy, U.S.A is always right and the sun is always shining" forum, then let them have it. If you want to make a forum that's mean, gritty and "realistic" (whatever that means) by all means, go ahead. In fact you don't even need to do anything; there's already a place for you, if you'd only visit.

It may be just me but I don't get the point you're trying to make.

@Esky: that America comment, that's called sarcasm

Edit: Hmm... it's starting to make a bit sense here.
Darkov, somethings just aren't allowed to be discussed here. Politics or religion for example. Why not? Just look at the past. There's a reason why wedon't allow it. Sure, there are those nasty grey-areas. Sometimes we make the right decision, sometimes we make a wrong one.

As for the homophoibia... no one who is part of the staff is homophobic or whatsoever, trust me on this one.

So add to the politics and religion ALL the Homosexual related things. It sure is causing a problem now.

Bull. His name begins with an "F" and ends with a "y". Note that this is not personal attack against him, I respect all people's opinions.

Because of one thread? I'm truly sorry. What I have done by starting one thread here has allowed Alpha Leader to vent his homophobic spleen upon the community of TLR. If you were mod, would you lock up any thread that has the word "gay" in it? Ban gay and bisexual members from talking about problems in their relationships, or even mentioning it on here because YOU have a hard time keeping your mouth shut? Maybe parade over to the Fanfiction forum and check out every character in every RPG and fanfic to make sure they're niiiice and straight.

(The reason why FD locked the "bigotry running rampant" thread, by the way, is that he rightly felt that it would inevitably provoke flaming from certain members, and then counter-flaming, and so on--despite the fact no one had done that yet.)

I'll take Wizard's word for granted that none of the staff are homophobic, so none of the above topics will be so augmented.

I am gay. Am I not welcome? I certainly don't feel welcome thats for sure. "Sanitised" is a great word for this place, but "Over-sanitised" would be more appropriate.

I'm 24, gay and I live in Northern Ireland. Therefore (apparently) I'm too old to have an opinion, of the wrong sexuality and I live in a place that is not only NOT the USA, but also pretty much anti-USA.

Yet I am an "average gameplayer". So go figure. This website isn't a welcoming, friendly place. Its a homophobic, pro-usa, bigot-fest.

Moderators -
Stop hiding behind the wall that you've built yourselves and give the users what they want. You pretend to offer a service, yet you are merely satisfying your own egos. I pity every sad little one of you....especially the ones that are so frightened by a sexual choice that they have to lock down every thread that barely mentions it.

Post Thu Mar 03, 2005 4:05 am

that's a bit strong dude. I wouldn't call it pro-USA per se, or a bigot-fest, but certainly the rancid smell of it is in the air. Hey, I'm bisexual, 13 (far too young to have any good opinions), and from Canada. So we're in almost the same position here and frankly I'm not feeling exactly welcome either at this point in time.

Edit: What's your msn?

Apologies Wilde if I stepped over the line a little. But as you will probably know by now, living with a sexual preference that is "not the norm", can sometimes be very hard irl. Witnessing prejudice like this on the internet, a media that revels in freedom, pushes me one step closer to the edge. These people shouldn't be allowed to carry on forcing their potentially-dangerous opinions on kids...they forget that by saying discussions of homosexuality are not allowed, they are in effect making it a taboo subject irl, which in turn has the knock on effect of homophobic violence which I witness on a day-to-day basis.

I don't use MSN I'm afraid, but we can always talk here for as long as it takes the moderators to delete all trace of me.

Post Thu Mar 03, 2005 4:26 am

that's unfortunate...you should get an account.( if/when you do you can add me at [email protected])

But yes, I have felt discrimination (you'd probably be more experienced in the matter, though). And THAT, of course, is on top of inner torment, and THAT is on top of social issues in my class that compound the issue. And to all those lucky straight bastards out there, being in the situation (and I'm sure slartifartfast can back me up on this) really, REALLY sucks. Because right off the bat based on your sexual choices, you're pretty damn sure 75% roughly of all humans on the planet hate you. And there's always the chance of being gay-bashed and killed when coming out of a bar one night.

Altogether, because of this kind of homophobia (which is greatly different from FD's point of view), growing up queer is horribly, demonically frightening. And if you "ban all topics that have to do with homsexuals", you're buying into that and compounding the problem. Whether homophobic or not, it is bigoted.

Well said.

I think that all homophobes should try and spend one week living the life (not practicing of course) of a homosexual. I've been spat at, had 7 of my limbs broken, my nose shattered by a bottle, my walls graffitied, my family attacked, my mother spat at on the street - and by who? Homophobic ****ers that hide behind their religion.

Telling children that it is right to scorn gays, or even simply by saying the subject is taboo (same effect), is not only immoral and offensive but dangerous to the next generation. I feel sorry for you Wilde, my school years were the worst.

Post Thu Mar 03, 2005 4:57 am

I by no means mean to make light of it, but, you had 7 of your limbs broken? Are you in actual fact an octopus?

Post Thu Mar 03, 2005 5:12 am

lol. I should have said bones 2 in my right arm, one in my left, my right thigh, 2 ribs and a bone in my neck. It happens so often, its hardly reported anymore.

Anyway, after my little chat with eraser (another thread), I'm going to stop this now and disappear again. Good luck all.
