Thoughts on aliens?

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

The sheer size of the universe makes the probability of there being other life out there almost too large to ignore.....but that doesn't necessarily mean that there IS....it just means that an intelligent person should not rule out the possibility. And that includes for religious reasons. FD and SW, if you're interested in chatting about this via email, please get in touch (mark the subject line TLR)...I'd be very interested in knowing your views.

@Gromit, that's exactly my point as well. My strong point is math, and from a mathematical standpoint, the probability of there being no aliens in the universe is zip to nill.

Based on Locutus's post, I must raise another question.

What defines an "alien?"

Can it be any living organism (redundant ) or does it have to have the ability to carry out activities similar to the way we humans do? Would an autotroph be an alien? It still manufactures it's food in the way plants here on Earth do. Veeery interesting topics

I find it improbable that there is no alien life out there. For anyone to think that our planet is the only one in the entire universe capable of sustaining life is purely delusional.

when was I mean? I was merely jesting...there wasn't even a hint of me being sarcastic or sardonic or anything! And besides, its true! Moderation is moderation, but a bit of polite teasing is bloody human nature!

EDIT* Dear me after posting this I just went and read "status of TLR II" Well I'm not complaining about moderation (yet) I have much respect for the site rules all I am saying is I have seen far more offensive stuff passed in jest between regulars like taw and esq and indy etc *walks away on tiptoes*

Scientific fact: The odds that this is no life PERIOD other then earth life in the universe is basicly impossible. now sentient life is totaly different. my dear friend said, when i asked him this, that either we would have large amounts of sentient life or almost no sentient life at all. to quote from a favorite movie of mine "Do you think theres life out there?" "If there isn't its a big waste of space".
personally (completly truthfully) due to the current revoloution in Aviation and Space flight i hope to be on/fly a space shuttle around.

also in a few years the first mars teams will land (FACT) and so we will get another look at the decent theory that there was some form of life once on mars becuase 99% most likley there was water on mars. (according to a teacher of mine (Univesrty chemistry dude) the water patterns could be caused by something other then water)

Bill watson in all his funny brillance said (through a 'friend' of his ) the sure sign that there is life in the universe is that it hasnt tried to contact us. think about that

Aliens smart enough to visit earth would be smart enough not to.

..... wait a minute... you're thinking that life here on earth is intelligent?

good question. depends on how u define "intelligent". where does it start/end?
logic? emotions? self-awareness?

i am very sure that there is life on planets beside earth. i also dont think that IF there are intelligent aliens then they didnt contact us. that view comes from watching too much TV

the more possible reason is simply that they are way too far away - and dont tell me that they have warpdrives, lol
