how beautiful Japan is with it's sparkling whale-free seas...

I've never understood why the whaling must go on. i've never understood why, oddly, Japan and Norway are allied on such an absurdity. You would think after such a long moratorium, the investment would have left whaling and would have been put back to other uses.

Okinawa is a big vacation choice in Japan, especially as it is closer than Hawaii. Although, Hawaii is still very very popular.

The people have an interesting history as well. Many of the "pirates" complained of by the Chinese and Korean texts came from the Ryukyu island chain of which Okinawa forms a part. Not a part of maintstream Japan for many centuries, the way the language is spoken and people dressed are/were uniquely Okinawan and the traditional music is distinctly different from the rest of the country.

The Japanese are actually trying to make Okinawa their "Hawaii". They have a great Island to work with.

Hmm, I thought Okinawa was separate form Japan(maybe a colony). At least that's what I think I hear d when I wa slistening to some Okinawan history in karate. Maybe it wa s separate back in like th emiddle ages or osmehting, yeah that's probably it.

It used to be. I can't think of when they joined Japan.

Maybe, I don't remember any battles happening in Okinawa though.

Or if you mean the takeover, it could have not had a significant battle.
