Can''t find the DVD Recorder!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Can''t find the DVD Recorder!

The current computer has a DVD +RW/+R recorder, But, using a Memorex DVD+RW, it only says the DVD is not blank, right out of the package. It plays a DVD ok, just will not back up to one. _NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD [CD-ROM drive this is the one that shows up on Belac. Any Ideas?

Did you try another blank DVD?

Went through 5 fresh from the wrapers.

Well it would seem that the format is compatible, but I remember that some DVDs need to be "erased" before use. That was a LONG time ago though.

I tryed that. When it is in the computer, and I right click on the drive, it give a "Format CD" command, but not a DVD one. It will not read that a blank DVD is in the drive. Their web site is of no help at all.

you have got appropraite dvd decoder software loaded, yes? because (if you haven't) dvds can only be seen as cds.

you may have some with your video card drivers or you can use a 3rd party one.

that's what it sounds like to me, FD.

then you can watch Flash Gordon on dvd!

A recorded DVD, I can watch, just the blanks that don't read. As far as drivers, only the ones that came loaded with it. MS Update does not issuse any updates for it, and I'm getting the run around with the Veritas web site. The are now trying to seend me to a "Partner" web site to get help. No luck so far.

Well if you can't get any new drivers, then I would suggest upgrading the firmware, and also reinstalling "Nero" or which ever program you are using.

I've got CD Creator 6, and also a program that comes with the computer to make recovery disks, neither work, but I may have to settle with 6 CD's instead of 1 DVD.

Don't despair! Have you tried upgrading the firmware yet?

Post Tue Oct 05, 2004 5:35 am

Since I have never delt with anything other than Hardware and software, A little helf with Firm Ware?

Post Tue Oct 05, 2004 6:38 pm

Digging so far on NEC.com has not helped. I may just settle for CD's for the time being and latter get a new drive, possibly an external, if one is available. Too much trouble for now. Life's gotten too busy for me these days. Ok, there was a postbetween mine by Indy. It disapeared.

Firmware is the programming in the hardware itself, put there by the manufacturer.

Here is a site that carries a lot of patches and flashes for that firmware ... I've never tried this so don't know much about it. They seem legit

The flash for the NEC 2100A makes it CD-RW capable and fools your PC into thinking that it is a NEC 2500A. This might also do away with your current problem.

This assumes that the 2100A and the 2100AD are the same.

<Edit>

Oh. And sorry for yanking my earlier post. Wasn't paying attention and deleted instead of edited. That's what I get for watching TV at the same time. I lose track of what's what.

<Edit2>

Here's something that indicates that a 2100AD user successfully flashed his unit to make it CD-RW capable .

didn't we go through all this with Sir Spectre about a year ago?

Went to the site, Indy. One item is for changing the region settings, don't need and another for making it burn -R which I don't need. This site is too cunfusing. I will just have to suffer the lose of a DVD burner. I don't even want to risk flashing something I don't have a clue about. Thanks anyway.
