Damn that Dial-Up!

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Damn that Dial-Up!

Aaah, feels sooo good to be back to the ol' ISDN.

For the last few months or so I have been forced to try and log onto this site on a 14.4kbps dial-up connection, eventually giving up after a while (hence my absence in case anyone noticed). I only just realised however, that the line/modem I used has a capacity of around 56k. It simply turned out that I wasn't being allocated much of the bandwidth. (There are several computers where I was staying, only one I had access to, mind). That isn't my point though, is there any way that I could, umm... acquire a bit more bandwidth for myself to make loading times "Possible" instead of "You must be bloody joking" for future reference? This is after all, a big site and it can't hurt to be prepared.

PS. If anyone manages to connect to TLR on a 14k dial-up, you have my deepest sympathies and greatest respect.

Well, no quite. I do get connection speeds from 49.6 up to 52.6 K. It's not too bad unless there are alot of pics involved.

no, I'm also 56K

I find that so long as you have music or something else to focus on, the loading time isn't so bad, although I'm sticking to posting only on my cable conected computer in the mean time. --- VH16

*points and laughs at all 56k users* HAHAHAHA! Honestly, and seriously though, I used to be on 56k over a year ago. Since we got DSL, the 'net's been a lot more fun. I know that not all 56k users can afford DSL or cable. I just hope that broadband gets a hell of a lot cheaper so EVERYONE can enjoy it.

I will be glad to switch when my provider creates a new working version for DSL. They had one and dropped it when they made major chnages to thier software. When they do it, I will switch. I have had Juno since 98 and like it too much to switch and its only $14.95 a month unlimited use. So, for now, why switch to a $30 version.

As long as I have to keep using my garbage 300 Mhz comp for internet access anything faster than 56k is pointless. Come December I'll have a new computer though and it'll be DSL or cable all the time then.

*Waits impatiently for December to arrive*

Meh, dial-up is ok. It all depends upon what you need the internet for. *Sigh* It would be nice to be able to download demos though...

*Thwacks Neo for inevitable 56k joke*

As long as you're not used to a faster connection its ok
Its just not worth paying about 900Rands/150dollars/75pounds/113Euro per month for dsl. But we're getting another telephone company sometime and then it will hopefully be better
