Security Flaw Discovered in Winzip

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Security Flaw Discovered in Winzip

Just a "heads up"; apparently a security flaw has been discovered in Winzip. Personally, I stopped using Winzip a long time ago, but many people still use it (despite the fact that PKWare originally developed the compression technology). At the moment, I use XP's slow 'n dodgy "Compressed Folders" system, and install WinRAR as needed. The problem is that WinRAR, like PKZip, ain't free anymore *shakes head*.

Guess I was lucky. My WinRAR is a shareware copy that's over 1 year out of trial period o0

Winzip is still perfectly acceptable for people who are new to, or demand relatively little, from file compressors/archivers. As to WinRAR, who says it isn't free? I got it free but then that's me.

I still have version 3.11, which is shareware, and I use that when I need to. As for being "Free" Taw, I was referring to the fact that WinRAR is now "trialware" not "shareware".

I *hate* trialware! By the way Taw, do you know of any good freeware utilities that can open and create ZIP/RAR files?

So is there a patch?

I mean.... the link lindicates that a patch was issued but was that patch before or after the new vulnerabilities were found? I'm confused.

Indy - I think that version 9.0 SRC 1 is the "safe" version.

Chips - I have to agree, they ARE all the same!

I use XP's compression system as primary viewing at .zipped filed, and use Zipgenius most of the time when compressing
(4 compression states: light, medium, heavy, and brutal )

I knew what you meant by free, Esq; you know i don't actually pay for anything, it's one of my fringe benefits.

winRaR is the way to go. it would be great if everyone used it. because RARs are much more compact than .zip

well everyone in the halomodding community uses it...you get flamed if you don't lol

winRAR? the demo lasts forever, you just get an annoying message when you use it that pops up (after the trial)

Are you sure Wolfy? Every trial version that I have tried has stopped functioning after a set period . Anyone remember shareware? *Sigh*
