it's only going to get worse over the next few years. in the end hardly anyone will be able live there, there'll be too many vicious storms, and insurance companies will deem it too high a risk to provide cover.

huh? Where did that come from? Is there something you know that the meteorologists don't?

with taw, anything is possible

Earlier, it was posted that global warming effects are on the increase. Also, the hurricane paths were projected to point more and more towared the north. Although Ivan seems not to have heard about it...

Already, many glaciers in the northern latitudes have receded significantly enough to impose changes to Inuit and Eskimo lifestyles. The receding ice also corresponds with a gradual rise in global sea levels.

So what Taw is referring to is not born of some kind of "Mufti voodoo" but currently observable global change.

no, it was def voodoo.

It's difficult to tell whether the changes in temperature are directly due to pollution and the greenhouse effect or whether we're just going through another slight wobble in the earths orbit (the same cause behind the ice ages). Or even if both are making a contribution. If it is just a slight wobble in the Earth's orbit though, it could start to get colder again in 10 years time?

This is true. In the end, they are all "global warming effects."

i wonder if your luck will be crappy enough to have hurricane zacariah (sp?) come at you.

other than that, welcome back! i think im the first to say that hope your tiles are intact. 10hours of winds.. ahh, sounds nice.

how's the car and windows? your garden? fresh garden salad?

Post Thu Sep 09, 2004 11:53 am

Post Thu Sep 09, 2004 11:56 am

Lucky man. I'm glad it turned out ok. if it gets worse in the next few years, and these huge storms become a regular thing, are you going to carry on living there?

Post Thu Sep 09, 2004 8:39 pm

Ivan is expected to make landfall monday night or tuesday morning on the west side of Flordia. At the moment shes a Cat. 4 hurrican but is expected to become a Cat. 5 within the next day or two. Last time i checked winds were somewhere around 145 or 150.

I hope that one steer clear of you again DS, I think the said somewhere around Tampa for this one.

Damn, man. Florida's gotta be hating this by now. Two Category 4 hurricanes in a matter of weeks and now an almost Cat-5 hurricane? How much more beating can you Floridians take?

Post Thu Sep 09, 2004 11:52 pm

Good to hear your ok DS.

and insurance companies will deem it too high a risk to provide cover.

According to the Insurance Times that i get at work is that damage is expected to be between $3bn and $6bn (£1.7bn & £3.4bn)

This is just Frances damage estimates.
