hmmmmm, Zlo, as for the men, you forgt to mention me..
oww well, I rather tend to like blonds with pale white skin and blue eyes, so kinda nordic and swedish men to be at that, I think Dutch men are just all alike/not interesting enough, im more of a exo-cultural man myself, but not meant racistically at my other coloured komrads, I just like caucasian people more, it ain't personal.

going back to the Original Topic, if you ever have a look on the Russian/Eastern European buy-a-bride sites, there are some absolute stunners, supermodel standards. How bad must it be to live there if you have women who are that beautiful prepared to sell themselves to repulsive middle-aged westerners? a lot of these women are clever too, degrees and masters, so it's not like they're hicks. I find it tragic.

I can imagine some women jumping at the chance to get out of their current circumstances Taw, especially in the poorer countries. I agree with you however, it is disgraceful. All of these "Russian brides" etc, are just selling themselves into a more acceptable form of prostitution and/or indentured slavery. T'ain't good I tells ya.

I know several Russian women who left and married westerners, friends of mine from university mostly. A commonality between them is that Russian women are usually very materialistic, and don't recognise any moral issue; they just see it as securing their future by marrying comparatively wealthy foreigners in countries that are, politically and economically, more stable than their own.
In the poorer countries, esp SE Asia, as you rightly point out Esq, there's often very little to distinguish mail-order/internet brides from blatant prostitution and slavery. The poor women are commonly forced into it by parents or employers and will get little if anything in terms of direct material benefit.
I often see, as I travel around the UK, fat ugly old men with beautiful exotic asian brides, q obv mail-order; I often wonder what the true story is, and how the girl/woman really feels, and how much control she's had/will have over her own destiny.

Well that's the question isn't it? Does entering into such a relationship provide the basis for self-determination? I guess that it would depend upon the "buyer", however my first instinct would be to ask how much you can respect a woman that you can (and have) purchased overseas? This is no slight upon the "bride", but rather upon the system itself.

Don't know how the paper work flows in the UK but here, you can bet that once the bride's right to stay in the US has been made permanent either as a permanent resident alien or as a naturalized citizen, divorce is not too far away.
The great thing about western societies in general and the US in particular is that once here, these brides usually absorb western values and social rights by as if by osmosis if nothing else and usually learn to assert those rights to their own benefit.
Of course, there are many who remain victimized and terrorized, especially ones from poorer countries in Southeast Asia.
And that's the second part of the story, many of these mail orderers are socially deviant to begin with and have discovered that they can satisfy their needs more safely by bringing in an unsuspecting foreign bride.

however it sometimes works to the disadvantage of the buyer. As you say, the more clued up and mercenary of the brides will head for a divorce court before the ink on the marriage certificate is even dry. However, in a story I particularly enjoyed, an Englishman from Manchester bought his very young bride from the Philippines, paid extra for her to be young and a virgin, got married very quickly in a civil ceremony in the UK, only to find that she had *ahem* extra baggage, so to spk. She wasn't a "she" at all! Brilliant..
