National Anthems

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

For obviopus reasons I like the anthem of my own country best. I was a bit surprised by Kendo's reply - man, being a German (at least that's what your profile says) you should know the history of your anthem better . It has nothing to do with the Third Reich apart from the fact that it was used then. Actually, it was written in 1841. If you don't believe me, check this out. Please don't get offended, it's just my mood today

I don't have a favorite anthem...but i like the tune of the US...I just don't like the fact that it has been overly commercialized and that everytime a person sings it, it is looked upon as the most patriotic thing you can do for your country.Plus, i dunno about you guys...but the phrase about the praries seems out of place. especially since only 2% of them are left.

grrr this topic is becoming clickable very fast....for any person from any country to say that so and so countries' histories have been bathed in blood is hypocritical to say the least....i have a very hard time naming a single country that's history doesnt include a long period of war or fighting...if you can name one please do...i wont name any examples for the sake of keeping old wounds closed

uh...er...Canada?
besides fighting when the colonies tried to make it the 14th state...i don't think canada has been "bathed" in blood...maybe taken a 3 minute shower in it but not bathed.

I happen to think that La Marseillaise is rather a good anthem. It is stirring, it evokes patriotism and it actually makes me tear up a little sometimes.

*sniffle sniffle*

err..uh..anyways, like i was saying, i don't have a prefrence...though i do sometimes have an urge to listen to the techno version of battle hymn of the republic. not quite the same as the anthem...but close enough for practical purposes

Not bathed in blood, let's see;
All the colonial states are out because they butchered the natives, so there goes the entire continets of Africa, the Americas, and Oceana. In Asia, lots of civil wars in China, Japan was WWII, french indo-china fought the french, the US, and each other. Korea, nuff said. India/Pakistan fought their wars. Middle east, everyone's fought everyone. In Europe, the seven years war, the Napoleanic wars, several revoltions and civil wars, and two little things called WWI and WWII. And for the Swiss, they have a history of mercenary action. I think that accounts for everyone. My, we are a brutish race. --- VH16

i dont mind our own Nat/A. but i dont like it when the singers try to jazz it up like at the foot ball games and crap. personly i think its really dishonnerly to do that when there is so much pride behind it and stuff. but i do agree with you since the words are about war and not peace.

Post Wed Sep 01, 2004 5:47 pm

hold it, VH16, but you have once again forgotten canada. The french did not butcher the natives, they traded furs with them and were very friendly. like i said, canadians have had some wars, i'm not saying they're perfect, but compared to the rest of the world, they have not faced as many wars, battles, and probably day-to-day murders as some other parts of the world have that are in constant fighting and constant bloodshed.
