National Anthems

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

I, unfortunately, caught one where America won and I had to listen to our own National Anthem, the star spangled banner, an out of date tune about war and bloodshed. I personally dislike our national anthem, and much prefer Canada's about peace, loyalty, and freedom and much wish that we imitated our northernly neighbors in this (and other) respects.
You know, I wasn't really going to respond to this thread at all, but you know what? F**k it. I love the Star-Spangled Banner, always have, and I always will. And I don't appreciate ANYONE disrespecting our National Anthem. I'm proud to have the Star-Spangled Banner as our anthem. I don't go around disrespecting other countries anthems. But it really bugs the HELL out of me, that one of own citizens would choose to criticize ours. If you don't like it, you can always to move to Canada.

People forget the circumstances that were happening when Frances Scott Key wrote the anthem. We were fightig for our lives and freedom. It is his view of the battle going on at the time.

Mee, chill. Not everyone will always see eye to eye on things. That is life. It doesn't take away from the grandure of the song or the meaning behind it. But to those who stand with it, the meaning will not diminish.

You know, a country's national anthem is supposed to mean something to it's people. This song means a lot to me, and for somebody to criticize that is despicable in every sense of the word. I do take this VERY seriously, because a National Anthem is something for people to rally behind. NOT TO SNEER AT! I have a feeling this thread is going to turn into a flame war. I suggest to the mods that they close it immediately.

Canada's Anthem and America's Anthem are the only ones I really know.

I prefer Canada's because it is about standing together and whatnot.

The American Anthem has been bathed in blood twice and I'm not sure it is complettly true.

America has always been bathed in blood as a whole but that's a political argument.

It won't become a flame war because I will simply not respond to the comments made. Some like the SSB, I do not, it's my right to, I'd much rather rally behind "America the Beautiful." Also, anyone here ever hear the East German National anthem, or more particually, the techno version there of? Really sweet, it has that eastern block feel that I know at least one other person enjoys. And please, when you resond, keep it nice and clean. I don't want one of my threads to get flamed, or worse, clicked. --- VH16

Flippin heck - lay off the "america blah blah blah" tripe please!!

As it states here, and as you all full well know - check your POLITICAL views at the door on the way in to TLR, or face reprocussions. Simply put - no one is remotely interested in reading your personal views about others countries/politics, and posts airing your views are neither welcome, nor wanted. No one cares what you think - so leave it out please!!! If you really are dying to speak out - find a website for it, or create your own blog page where you can post what you like. See Groms website link for an example of a blog page!

ON TOPIC
As it is - I LOVE our national anthem, and as you may imagine - I am a staunch royalist. I feel proud when i see our Queen, or Prince Charles as well. Ask me to name a person to sum up our country in one go - its the Queen (no, not Graham Norton!) and the day they change the national anthem is the day I stop being an Englishman, a Briton - and become an inhabitant of an island off the coast of France!!

What about the "unofficial" Finnish anthem? It's a classical piece, but I can't remember the name.

National anthems, like national flags, are not really meant to be changed. Its part of the heritage, and is something for all the little kiddies to sing with pride, cos i know i did when i was younger.
and the trip in aus about changing the anthem to 'waltzing matilda'? bah, traitors! we use to sing god save the queen, but we got a brand-spankin-new-hioity-toity national anthem, and some republicans want to use a song that has no real correspondance to australia and only helps re-inforce the negative sterotype of 'chuck another shrimp on the barbie'.

but i'll get off my soapbox now.

In the interest of peace here at Lancers Reactor I have opted out of this thread. Too many of my friends have dead in the defense of this country to even begin to look at this and not want to say something that would make people offended.

My suggestion without being rude is that if you don't like your countries national anthem you should through political means try to get it changed or you could always find a new country to live in that has an anthem that your beliefs are more inline with.
