@UK Contingent......What is your "proms?" It clearly is not the same as what high school students here call a prom.

it's where a bunch of toffee nosed hooray henries, upper class twits, and chinless wonders get together to extol British music. some of its quite highbrow, but mostly folk are only fussed about the last night, when they all get together at the Albert Hall wearing their university scarves and carrying their witty house mascots and sing Rule Britannia about 900 times. cos it's on the telly.

hey what's wrong with a bit of working-class inverted snobbery? don't you want to know what I'd do with the Royal residences? (don't ask about the Royal Family, you don't really want to know)

oddly enuff I've never been a prommer. don't mind a bit of Elgar now and then, ptrefer Vaughan-Williams meself. but the whole Last Night at the Royal Albert hall malarkey does me nut in, every year. I just don't get it.

calls to mind a skit with Graham Chapman as the unemployed working class intellectual father berating his son for getting all poncey with industrial equipment.... "Toooongsten karrrbide drrrilllll? Toooongsten karrbide drilllll?"
