Post Fri Jul 30, 2004 12:13 am

yay, I can push my virtual Zimmer frame around now.

how the hell did i ever get to 40? I woke uo this morning and thought "maybe it isnt true and y3esterday was a dream.." uh no, I'm 40 + 1 day hell it seems like only yesterday that I was playing footie with me m8s on the rec, doing me A-levels, square-bashing on me basic, shacking up with a bird, having kids etc etc. And it really does seem like yesterday that I met Mrs Taw. where have all the years gone? i want them back so that I can do them properly.

Bah, youth is overrated. Trust me .

Happy Birthday, Mullah. I trust that your next forty years will be just as "eventful" as the last .

Oh yeah, and here is your present. *Hands Pete gruel bowel and cardigan*

whether this was held off as to NOT spoil my bday or they were desp trying to find someone else, but Uncle Taw has just been made Contracts Manager for the IT Dept - which means I run all the install jobs from beginning to end. Obviously I can do it as I've been doing it for 15 years nearly in one form or another, but now it's official which means I can't lark about or pass the buck anymore. Also the trainees have been formally put under me, which I hate; I don't mind telling them how to do stuff but I do mind being their bl**dy keeper.

I will be getting some extra money though - after 45minutes of me moaning my bag off and threatening to get my union involved, i got an extra 3.5% which while sh*t is better than nothing (and more than this years pay rises, actually)

fortunately the day Ive been given meh new duties is the day I fook off on holiday for a fortnight (dizzy new manager - chick - forgot I was going away!)

With all the help you provide on the form, we know you can do the job and do it well. Just train the newbees to do a good job and let'em go. We have faith in you. Good luck in it and with them.

actually i prefer tormenting them and making them do stupid things. Can't have independent thinking, can we?

Post Fri Jul 30, 2004 8:53 am

It does help sometimes. I have one person under me and if I give her work to do, I know she will do it. I have had people under me that I had to stay on and had to spend too much time following up behind them making sure the work was done, done right, and needed no go-backs.

Post Fri Jul 30, 2004 9:51 am

Well since I'm late and you didnt want to have one I won't wish you a happy bday
Don't be mean to the guys below you, sometime somewhere you will need them and then their availability will depend on your attitude toward them

eek now I'm making responsible sppeches guess I'm getting old as well

Post Fri Jul 30, 2004 10:01 am

they're my pets and I will do as I will with them; minions are for minioning. I haven't got time to look after children, I have tradesmen to shout at and ulcers/heart attacks/strokes to cultivate.

"..send another Musa to free his children from dis' Babylon.."

I stand by what I said, besides shouthing is bad for all those you mentioned. I guess you would have loved being shouted at when you just started out
