Of those who have tattoo's, and work in a business, has there been or is there any restictions on them?

Can't go by where I work. It is too conservative. I don't think that anyone with a tattoo, at least not a openly visible one, would get past the interviewing process.

I have one earring, and that's enough for me. Tattoos and piercing in general - no pros, no cons, a matter of taste, I think (you just have to make sure they're done by a professional in order to avoid infections etc.). i just try to imagine all those chicks with tattoos when they're 60 or 70... weird view

My girl has a tounge stud, which I never thought i'd like but believe me, as grom said, they can certainly can have their advantages. I draw the line at nose and eyebrow rings though, don't like them at all and coloured tats look cheap and scummy.

i have 13 piercings in total ..they are.. tounge,lower lip, 2 rings in eyebrow, 3 spikes in left ear, 2x 2inch spikes in right ear and both my nipples done and i want more. some people dont like piercings some do its a personal choice i done them cause i think there damn cool and impress the kinda girl i like....tattoos i only have 3 which are all the "celtic design" but those designs are unique because theres so many to choose from and there never in fashion or out of fashion... what i mean by this some people get stupid tattoos like taz manian devil which in 50 years aint gonna be that impressive...but celtic has been going 100s of years so u cant complain with that i suppose...all im saying is people do it for there own purposes they dont do it to freakl/impress people they do it cause they want to and its there choice ....

@ server: haha, you remind me of a mate of mine who swore that his tattoo of a hemp leaf would never go out of fassion for him cause he'll always smoke weed. one year later he never takes his shirt off, even in summer months because 9/10 people will take the piss.

Everyone says their tattoos will never go out of fassion but everyone elses will. They have a word for that, its called bullsh*t. In actuality, you'll grow up, your various body accessories will hamper your chances of moving up the employment ladder, stuck with a choice between feeding and clothing your family and increasing your standard of living, or expressing yourself and not conforming to society, you're choice but you know you'll cave because you cant be an adolescent forever. Eventually the holes will heal up and you'll become more conservative. One day you'll look at your 'timeless' tattoos and shake your head thinking "my GOD, EVERYONE ON EARTH has celtic symbols or chineese symbol tattoos"

you couldn't be more right....I removed my nose stud because I found I wasn't being taken seriously with it - the second that I removed it I had no problem getting a job whatsoever.

I've still got a tiny scar on the side of my nose, but its not noticeable unless you look for it...I actually quite like it nowadays, reminds me that I did actually "rebel" at some point in my life

There's a couple of reasons I don't go for a lot of piercings and tattoos.
First, the scriptures say our bodies are temples, and we shouldn't mistreat them. Be yourself, you don't need to permanently mutilate your body.
Some more practicals reasons include:
1) Appearance matters, whether it's fair or not, people judge you by the way you look. You're bound to have trouble getting a job if you go to interviews with a bunch of tattoos and piercings all over (unless you want to work in the tattoo parlour). Do you want to be followed by store detectives your whole life?
2) How will all that stuff look when you're 60? Do you want your grandkids to say, "what's that big blue splotch on your arm, grandpa?" I haven't yet seen someone over 50 with a tattoo that looked cool. I have met older people that wish they hadn't got tattoos when they were "young and stupid"
3) There's a hygene issue. How clean are some of these places doing piercings and tattoos?
4) There's a money issue. Some of these guys get their tongue pierced, then the metal stud messes up all their teeth. Teeth aren't cheap to fix.
5) I don't know from experience, but it's gotta hurt like #$%@ to have your tongue, or nipple, or private part pierced.
6) What's your new bride going to say on your wedding night when she sees all the wierd stuff you've done to yourself? (this probably doesn't apply to everyone because I think most people that are into tattoos and piercings are also into per-marital sex, so the wedding night, if there ever is one, holds no surprises)

I agree, it is self-mutilation; I don't disapprove of it for scriptural reasons, but I do find it distasteful. I didn't even have a tattoo when I was a sailor, for the same reasons, much to the humour of my shipmates at the time.

No. Not stupid. I have two friends from College, both very much smarter than me and they have tattoos on their upper arms and back. They were tight friends and at one point competed with each other in the tattoo arena.

But they are getting on in years, they no longer are "cut" like they used to be and, honestly speaking, their tattoos look sort of faded and disprorportionate now. So, now, they do regret the tattoos because they have not been able to keep them looking as "cool" as they had wanted. The greens and reds are faded in color and even the black is sort of greying. They've had these tattoos for 20+ years now.

One tattoo is pretty much the album cover from the Greatful Dead's Grateful Dead album except that instead of blue, the background is green with more black overtones and it is only the head and shoulders shot of that cover as the tattoo doesn't go all the way down the back. The other's is kind of hard to describe. It's kind of gothic-y with intertwining thorny vines and skulls and stuff.

Mind you. I told them back then that they were nuts to do it but I usually was the third wheel on a bicycle with those two on most days.

I don't have a problem with ear piercings but an ex gf had a stud above her chin and below her lip. First off, it looked like she hadn't wipped away some snot, second, when she took it out she could actually put the tip of her tongue through it. I had to ask her to leave it in. She didn't talk to me much after i tried to wipe it off with a tissue...

tattoos, aslong as it isn't something big, then i really don't mind.

i suppose u cant understand untill u get them i suppose .... everyone to there own i suppose i like my tattoos and if they fade ill get them redone in 30 years its no big deal

I've got my ear pierced, and i might get 1 tattoo done when i'm old enough, but i think multiple piercings, or all-over tattoos are a bit much, and don't always look right.
