ive got a big dental operation coming up in a few month's time, and there a not insignificant chance that i'll wkae up with no sense of taste for the rest of my life; and im a chocholic!!!! help!

Ouch - doesn't sound good...........at all. Mind you, remember that they always have to say what the "worse case senarios" are - otherwise they would get sued. You have to understand that there is a risk - no matter how small, that you may lose your sense of taste. However, ya can be sure that its so small that you'll be fine..

I don't mind the dentist at all - until he sticks in needles..........i HATE needles..

Meh, I had to have two fillings once. They were at the bottom of two crevices on my molars so I couldn't brush them, hence the cavities. The problem was that the dentist didn't give me any anesthetic. Try having some fillings done without drugs; it's not a pleasant experience.

I've had the same thing Esq, not fun at all. Mine was especially pleasent though as the second I walked outside the dentist the fookin filling fell out.

yeah, the damn stuff tastes like medicine mixed with nothing: ie- it sorta tastes like medicine but the image is fleeting and disgusting.
I hated braces as well, my mum threatned to 'disown' me if i had any marks on them.
and the feeling afterwards isnt too pleasent either, it feels like your teeth are all loose
