just got back, it's very good; the humour is excellent and generally a lot more mature than previously, no Jay and Silent Bob (nothing wrong with em but they wouldn't have worked here) Ben puts in a very sympathetic performance and the Will Smith running-gag is soooooo well done, especially it's final denoument. Liv is excellent, she really shines in this esp in the Sweeney Todd scene. No she doesnt get her tits out (nearly though) Oh yeh, J-Lo has a very small part at the beginning, but it is important and you do see the point of it. Excellent casting btw, KS has used his repertory of regular actors v well this time, George Carlin does particularly well, and the little girl is superb.
overall it was a tad predicatble and feelgoody, some of the sentiment is laid on a bit thick, but the humour really carries it, and NYC as usual looks great. Very reminiscent of Richard E. Grant's "Jack & Sarah" in many ways, this film, so I recommend it. I promise you'll like it. While it's still v much a Kevin Smith offering in many ways, it shows a mellowing and maturing of his style with the slapstick much reduced and more in context.
aaaaaaaaaaand for those of us with a taste for such non-mainstream things, Fahrenheit 9/11 opens on Friday
at last...
but back to the point, I suppose may as well as well make a token effort to contribute. I almost certainly will be going to see Shrek 2, I have offspring that lack discernment and critical taste, remember. Y'know, I did enjoy the forst one more than i thought I would, and having Puss-in-Boots in the second looks entertaining, esp as its Antonio Banderas spoofing up his own Zorro act, but other than that it does look same old, same old. Hollywood formulaic sequel. it was bad enough having to suffer The Day After the Week Before, and of course there's all the rest of the family-orientated holiday fare to inflict on me and force £20 notes to vanish out of my wallet. Bloody crap. Thank god for Kevin Smith, Micheal Moore, & Quentin Tarantino, otherwise I might as well just suck my brains out or have a f***in lobotomy this year.
and there ain't no way I'll ever go and see that Harry Botter rubbish, ever.
(oh yeah, one other thing, a little bit of advice for anyone under a mental age of 12; Shrek 2 is not and never will be the greatest film ever made unless ALL the rest of the worlds film collection gets mysteriously stolen by aliens and even then it wont be that good. I'm sick to bloody death of imbeciles saying "T3 was the best film ever made " "Pirates of the Caribbean is the most awesome movie ecer made" "Matrix Revolutions is the greatest film ever made" or whatever they've just been to see and overloaded themselves with E-numbers on. if you can't put together any sentences that dont consist of a hyperbolic subjective claim that's utterly unprovable then don't fr*gging bother contributing.)
