Shrek 2

This is where you can discuss your homework, family, just about anything, make strange sounds and otherwise discuss things which are really not related to the Lancer-series. Yes that means you can discuss other games.

Shrek 2

Has anyone seen (or is planning on seeing) "Shrek 2"? I'm going to see it tonight, for want of anything better to do. I really enjoy animation, and I expect there to be some good satire. The first one was quite good, albeit a little obvious. Still, we'll see if the second one is any better. Thoughts?

Note: Feel free to discuss the first one if you are so inclined .

How can you not have seen shrek! Chips, I thought so highly of you.

I only saw Finding nemo cause my housemate wanted it as her birthday present (DVD).

Apart from a fine few of them (Nemo, Toy story 1&2, Ants, Bugs life) i haven't seen any others........

Its funny you mention shrek 1 being obvious esq, the one thing that struck me about shrek 2 is that its far more complicated than number 1.

Post Wed Jun 23, 2004 4:14 am

i doubt this will spoil things for anyone but shrek imho doesn't look like what he claims to be.

and technically i did watch shrek 1, as in having my presence there in the time of viewing. i fell asleep after first 5 minutes cause it was on a bumpy boat ride to this island.

I'll be seeing Shrek 2 at the earliest possible chance....looks corkin'

@taw - I'm expecting a full review of Jersey Girl from ya m'lad....I want to know 2 things...firstly if Kevin Smith has pulled out another blinder, and secondly if Liv Tyler gets her kit off

Post Wed Jun 23, 2004 5:27 am

just got back, it's very good; the humour is excellent and generally a lot more mature than previously, no Jay and Silent Bob (nothing wrong with em but they wouldn't have worked here) Ben puts in a very sympathetic performance and the Will Smith running-gag is soooooo well done, especially it's final denoument. Liv is excellent, she really shines in this esp in the Sweeney Todd scene. No she doesnt get her tits out (nearly though) Oh yeh, J-Lo has a very small part at the beginning, but it is important and you do see the point of it. Excellent casting btw, KS has used his repertory of regular actors v well this time, George Carlin does particularly well, and the little girl is superb.

overall it was a tad predicatble and feelgoody, some of the sentiment is laid on a bit thick, but the humour really carries it, and NYC as usual looks great. Very reminiscent of Richard E. Grant's "Jack & Sarah" in many ways, this film, so I recommend it. I promise you'll like it. While it's still v much a Kevin Smith offering in many ways, it shows a mellowing and maturing of his style with the slapstick much reduced and more in context.

aaaaaaaaaaand for those of us with a taste for such non-mainstream things, Fahrenheit 9/11 opens on Friday at last...

but back to the point, I suppose may as well as well make a token effort to contribute. I almost certainly will be going to see Shrek 2, I have offspring that lack discernment and critical taste, remember. Y'know, I did enjoy the forst one more than i thought I would, and having Puss-in-Boots in the second looks entertaining, esp as its Antonio Banderas spoofing up his own Zorro act, but other than that it does look same old, same old. Hollywood formulaic sequel. it was bad enough having to suffer The Day After the Week Before, and of course there's all the rest of the family-orientated holiday fare to inflict on me and force £20 notes to vanish out of my wallet. Bloody crap. Thank god for Kevin Smith, Micheal Moore, & Quentin Tarantino, otherwise I might as well just suck my brains out or have a f***in lobotomy this year.

and there ain't no way I'll ever go and see that Harry Botter rubbish, ever.

(oh yeah, one other thing, a little bit of advice for anyone under a mental age of 12; Shrek 2 is not and never will be the greatest film ever made unless ALL the rest of the worlds film collection gets mysteriously stolen by aliens and even then it wont be that good. I'm sick to bloody death of imbeciles saying "T3 was the best film ever made " "Pirates of the Caribbean is the most awesome movie ecer made" "Matrix Revolutions is the greatest film ever made" or whatever they've just been to see and overloaded themselves with E-numbers on. if you can't put together any sentences that dont consist of a hyperbolic subjective claim that's utterly unprovable then don't fr*gging bother contributing.)

LOL

Your review of Jersey Girl has certainly whet my appetite for it, although your comparison to "Jack and Sarah" disappoints me somewhat - I loved that film, but I did find it a little too cheesy in places, letting down what was a thoroughly depressing and altogether realistic storyline. Jersey Girl will definitely get my fiver....but unfortunately so will Barry Trotter, because my missus is a huge fan and I can't put up with her "we never go to see something I want to see" whinging any longer!

I put my foot down with my Mrs over Hocus-Poke-Arse and said there's no way I was bl**dy going to see that cr*p, and I wasn't paying for it either. If the sprogs wanted to go and see it, they could sponge off someone else or pay for themselves. I'll take me to see Shrek, and a whole host of other things including stuff I dont like at all, but I draw the line at Harry flamin' Botter.

if you lady wants you to go and see Botter then make her pay, and get the eateries too, say you're going under sufferance and that your critical faculties will be damaged so why should you add insult to injury?

I hear that to see Larry Otter you really need to have read the book for it to have made sense. If they haven't, then tell em they won't get it, and will be confused.

Taw - your review of the movie seems to be a million miles away from what i have heard so far........then again - it just doesn't sound like my cuppa...

Also - Pirates of the Carribean isn't the best film ever made - but its certainly the most entertaining disney film i have ever seen (not including animation movies though!). I loved it, but i guess that for some, films they love = best films made......which i don't go with......thinking of it that way, heck - i would come up with Leon (it does rock seriously amazingly though), Desperado and From Dusk til Dawn. All three I love with a passion..........there are more - i can just see them in my movie collection is all

I just get annoyed when people without really thinking say "such and such is the best film ever made ever" when what they mean and should have said is "I just went to see it and I really enjoyed it" The latter statement is perfectly acceptable, peple can like whatever the hell they want, it's none of my business, but the former is just stupid, because invariably film such-and-such is NOT the greatest film ever made and in 40yrs time no-one will remember it. All i ask is people think before they praise or slate a film because whether you like it or don't like doesn't mean it's good or bad. I watch some right old tosh which I wouldn't inflict on anyone else and don't really like to admit i watch because its not very good but I still like it - for example anything by Ken Russell.

for the record I really enjoyed POTC and rushed out to get it on DVD.

Leon - great choice btw!

Imagine having Liv Tyler sitting across from you at a booth and telling you that she is crushing on you at the moment.

One can only live and hope! And the little girl looks great too.
