Don''t you just hate it...

...when you have to format and start again? So many programs to reset again, patches to get and data to move again. Anyone else have as much "Fun" as I do doing this? Seems onece every 3 months. Now got to put back Norton, Spysweeper, Diskkeeper 8.0, DX 9.0b, MP 9.0, Power DVD, Creative diskburner, 20 differnet games. Some much fun I can't stand it.

Oh yes, I know exactly how you feel. Back in 2002-2003 I've lost count of how many times I have had to format. It was such a chore to reinstall and reconfigure everything 20 times.

well if you imaged your disk regularly to another drive or at least another partition, you wouldn't have to keep doing this.

I reformat maybe once a year, unless a drive actually fails or something else equally catastrophic happens. But as I keep regularly updated images of my o/s drive-partition (cos i use an array remember) to the slack partition and back up the main storage/apps area over my network to me server, I have no real problems when it comes to restoring stuff and i don't have to f*** about reinstalling all me apps.

my dad deals with this kinda stuff but he only has to reformat only once a year due to all the work hes done partioning the drives over the years

I hate having to reformat my harddrive. For one, it takes forever if you have a large harddrive. Two: You have to reinstall EVERYTHING that you didn't back up. That's always a joy.

I just discovered the harder part. Laying my hands on all the disks again. Every time I do this, I put Noton in a different place. Don't ask why. And I an having a hard time getting it again. May have to put Ice on here this time. I created a restorpoint after getting windows back up. So I hope to use it next time rather than from scratch. Dang clutter on my desk.

Found it, in plain sight, Dag nabit.

This time around, delt with spam, spyware and KOTOR. It was time to clean things up, and the "Spring Cleaning" is the best to get rid of all unwanted items. This time, the fire wall will be tighter. And as I have saved the downloads of Opera 7.52 and a few others, I don't have to download them again. It would be nice if windows and all other programs played nice, but they don't always.

Did notice this time, the refresh rate was set at 85. Nothing I did. Before was 60 and I changed to 72.

@Aod: Be glad you don't, it's a royal pain in the ass. I just hope I don't have to do it again anytime soon.

*Shakes head* I keep telling you guys to keep an image on a separate partition (or better yet HDD). Still, at least formatting nets you a nice clean installation, without any of the rubbish that accumulates over tome. Of course, the weeks worth of tweaking after you reinstall XP can be very irritating .

having a lot of storage available, I keep images of my installation disks for all my apps on the server so i can install over the network so i rarely need the original disks. And I have XP tweaking down to a fine art now, prob takes me 30mins to get it as I want other than a boot-time MFT defrag (but that only takes 30mins tops on NTFS)

I don't like doing two partitions on the same harddrive. I did it before. It managed to screw everything up. Besides, I like to keep things simple.

Esq, tell me about it. Still havn't been able to get the imager yet, but did a couple of restore points at the begining, so I can use those then image the drive. It has taken me 2hrs of back and forth to MS to get updates. I can only do about 5mb worth at a time. But, I hope to have what I need soon. Also got MP 9.0 downloaded intact and saved. Got lucky on that. Instead of 12gb of junk, I am now down to less than 6gb. Runs a little faster now, and as I have already noted, refresh rate this time is at 85. Before the reformat, it was 60. Maybe that will help my eyes a bit.

Well, got just about everything back that I wanted. No bugs so far. Even got kotor back up and running, this time with no problems. *keeps fingers crossed*
