Customers to pay MS''s legal bills?

Customers to pay MS''s legal bills?

Here we go, this is a good one. MS have claimed in a recent article that;

"Somebody ends up paying for this (legal bills)," said Microsoft attorney Robert Rosenfeld. "These large fee awards get passed on to consumers."
. It's interesting that the attorney said that, and not an official MS-affiliated personage. How seriously should we take this? Thoughts?

Note: Final should have reported this. After all, it is on his favourite news site .

Why doesn't Bill Gates pay for it?? Not like he's short on cash, beside it's his friggin' company, very sad. (I think i'll switch to mac)

Its policy in any civil suits - why should you have to pay if someone files a suit against you that turns out to be crap? If everyone tried to sue, then there would be no money. There needs to be SOME kinda deterrent from people starting any old Mickey Mouse lawsuit in the hope of some quick cash. Why should a successful company have to pay - just cause it "can". If you put this into person to person terms, someone sues you over a load of old cobblers - BUT - even though the case is thrown out for being obscenely stupid - YOU have to pay for your lawyers bill - about $1000 just cause it "got to court". Would you be happy? Especially when the 30th person in a year tried it?

People do seem to hate success - regardless of whom it is.......

NOOO!!! Don't turn to....*dramatic music plays in background* Mac, the most evil of evil. You'll be branded a traitor for life, well at least amongst the hardcore elite.

Homer: All right, pal: where'd you get the sugar for that tea?

Thief: I nicked it when you let your guard down for that split second, and I'd do it again.

I hate Macs ......

Actually, I have good news on that front. There is a emulator that allows you to use OS X on PCs, but it is still in the early stages. A 3GHz P4 runs like a Pentium 75MHz as I recall, and it takes 5 hours to install OS X from the first CD alone. Still, as soon as it becomes usable, it might be worth a go.

Esq, all corporations do this if there are legal/fines involved. Utiities in the states are the bigger ones, but others as well. A shame companies don't just cut their profits, absorbing the lose.

3000 bucks an hour? dammit - I gotta go back to uni and take a law degree!!!

I suppose the reason why its got to be "passed onto consumers" is cause the share prices would drop alot more - which could wipe billions off of the company (substantially larger amounts of money than the bills!!) due to "under performance" of the profit margins in the years quarters. Saying that the consumers can pay for it might stop it slightly? no idea - but share prices WOULD definately drop alot - so maybe that is why they say it? Dunno. Maybe sympathy to get them to stop the "anti monopoly" stuff and so on.

Those bills are pretty darned huge though . Surely they should change law firms - hmm.....Chips and sons? Chips Inc.......Mike-y-Chips (microchips pun for the slow).......hmm

Chips, along the same line, the bills would not be so big if the lawyers did not get rediculas(sp) in thier charges. US wise, a class action lawsuit against a company nets say 10 million, after the lawyer fees, their might be 3 million left for the people. Weird and funny uh?

Post Mon May 24, 2004 9:45 am

It probably just is a lot of posturing because those fees are outrageous if, in fact, the attorneys were charging $2,000 to $3,000 an hour. I am sorry but no amount of legal work is worth $50 a minute. I guess I'd be proud too if I could get away with billing a client at those astronomical rates!

For MS, since being sued appears to be a normal or regular cost of doing business, it probably makes economic sense to drive those "operating" costs back down to the asking price for its products. Question is if it makes good public relations.

I can't help but think that this time around MS's comments were directed to those greedy attorneys who, originally, filed the suit against MS "in behalf of" the consumers.

*sigh*
I use both Mac and PC. I only use PC's to play, Mac does the grapic stuff. Altough i sometimes use the PC for grapics. Why, WHY is Mac the most "evil of evil"?

Sorry for going of topic.

I'm not really switching to Mac. I think PC's are way better than Mac, I'm just fed up with Microsoft.

Post Mon May 24, 2004 8:31 pm

its just crud, its not user friendly, i had bad experiences with it, it just doesnt suit me

Macs are fine. They're just not the same as PCs and only now are somewhat modifiable.... although not all that much out there in comparison to PCs.

And, even today, most graphic arts shops work on Macs. Part of that may be out of sheer force of habit, I am sure, but I've heard too often that they're just better suited for the art work so maybe there is something to that?

Well, the CPU performance can be better, so they are often more suited to 3D rendering, etc. Besides, they have myriad graphic design programs to use.
