ATI Vs. nVidia Part 2: The X800 +Alienware''s ALX

This is really interesting, Alienware have issued a press release that states that they are offering a new feature in their computers called "ALX" that allows users to install two or more "off the shelf" graphics cards to their systems. This means that you can have TWO 9800 or 6800's running the the same time!I can't wait to see what the becnhmarks are like

You have to admit that requiring two PSU connections to you Vid Card is getting a little rediculous. We'll probably have to plug the nVidia 7800 into a wall socket.

True but, as I posted above (I think) the 6800 will only require one power connector now, and most decent PSUs (450W+) can support multiple graphics cards anyway.

Parallel graphics processing? Do they make monitors that will hook up to two cards like that or you have to get a sort of reverse splitter to combine two hookups into one? Me no understand. Why not just stuff two GPUs on one card and double the memory?

Indy - I imagine that the processing would work via the bus; both cards would do the processing, and then would output the data to the monitor in the standard way. It would work simliarly to dual-CPU MB; twice the power, but only one output. That's my theory anyway, we'll have toi wait and see.
