so 3 spyware scanners, 4 virus scanners and 2 firewalls arent enough?

Post Tue Apr 20, 2004 3:19 pm

well you obv aren't using them right, but you shouldn't be Kazaaa-ing anyway, it's riddled with viruses and trojans and all the firewalls in the world won't help you if you've got unrestricted access on that port. that's like spending 50 thousand quid on security for your house and leaving the door wide open with the alarm switched off. I think it needs at least 3 separate spyware .exes just to run. Why do it?

P2P = Evil! When will people learn? Even if the programs themselves are ok (the safest ones are usually the open source ones), the files you download aren't. Additionally, some worms and viruses specifically target such programs.

Esq, if he Had the OS on the hard drive, would it not be stored in a different Partition? I had another computer that had this, stored in a 4.3 gb partition on the main drive. I could format the main partition, but the OS was left alone. Just a thought.

Final - I too, have dual partitions, one of which contains all of my docs and utils, as well as regular XP images. I just reimage XP when there is a problem, and everybody is happy .

Taw - Yes, but mirroring degrades performance unless you have some really decent HDDs.

Van - That's good to hear .

in a few short months we'll all be using decent hdds, SerialATA. £72 for 120gb SATA? I'll have a bit of that, thx! You'd be daft not to.

I'll wait until my next upgrade, Taw; my dual-partitioned 40GB WD HDD is fine. When I need to upgrade, I'll get me some SATA-2 HDDs! They will only be marginally faster, but what the hell?
